Many PC (IE computer) speakers are low voltage/low wattage amps. Often even though they have a 120V line cord on them inside they will have a small power supply which converts the 120V AC to 12V DC or even 5V DC.

Some computer speakers even use one of your USB ports to sneak 5V DC from.

In all cases the built in amps tend to be rather limited in real output power often only 200mw to 1W per channel. Better quality (and more expensive) computer speakers may be a better choice but they often skew the power output ratings by using terms like PPO (Peak Power Output) which is an exaggerated very high number like 40W PPO, often those are 2W RMS or less.

You might find some computer speakers to be a bit better than the built in TV ones so if you have a set laying around, try them.

Car stereos definitely are the way to go if you have one which has analog audio input.

I have a fairly decent stereo system i installed in my bosses tailgate RV. I can post some pics monday. But its a 36' holiday rambler with 3 soon to be 4 tvs, in the back room is the audio rack. with an amplifier, satellite and a speaker selector which runs 3 separate pairs of speakers, 2 in the bedroom, 2 in the living, 2 outdoor. Then i added in an IR/RF repeater to control the system from anywhere around/in the RV.

When I hooked up the TV and radio in my previous RV I hooked up the out jack on the back of the TV to the AUX jack on the front of the radio then when I wanted amplified TV I just switched the radio input to AUX and turned up the volume on the TV as desired, and that output in turn would be amplified by the radio amp. Did not have to mute the TV. That way I had use of the remote to vary the volume and mute the sound when needed.

I did that; used a Pyle PTA-3 amp and a pair of PDMN48 5-Inch speakers from Amazon. Not super high-power or super hi-fi but definitely not bad. That only drawback is that there's no remote volume control.

I hooked TV into the surround sound system. Just took a red/white audio cable and hitting mute on the TV.
