The Forgotten LED... Project
With all the other lamps in the coach converted to LED, the one that bugged me was the 2ea. 20W lamps in the microwave over the stove. They may be 110vac lamps, but when the inverter is on and you need that light, it's still 40watts. So.... after allot of searching, I found a 110vac LED lamp that (just) fits and makes a beautiful wide spectrum white (not blue or yellow-warm) light. The only problem is that the microwave is an 'intermediate' size socket, and the lamp is 'standard'. eBay fixed that for $3 with an adapter.
Current draw from roughly 4A down to 400ma., and no 'settling' for lousy color temp or weak LEDs
The LED lamp came from SuperBrightLEDS.com. This is the smallest of the three shown and is the only one that will fit into the Sharp MW (it's also brighter than the bulbs it replaced). The LED base is an E27 full size base and needs an adapter to the 'Intermediate' base used on this microwave. That can be found on eBay: E17 to E27 Adapter.
Note that this LED is not dimmable! That means Hi-Lo switches as well. The Sharp Microwave/ Convection that Winnebago uses has a relay off the front panel and works fine, even though the website will say it won't work on relays, I called the factory and they didn't know why that was there.
Here is the sink overhead on the left, and to the right are 2ea. 20W 110VAC incandescent in the microwave.
This picture is with the two 20W lamps replaced with the LED lamp. It takes up the entire space of both of the 20W bulbs.
This is what 400ma. of light looks like.
