Uncomfortable folding bed

i have the jack knife sofa which gives the some of the same problems as yours. i use a foam twin size topper from walmart.on the "seat" side of bed when its flat and it helps some but not alot. i can fold it and roll it up with a bungee cord and store under the main bed. our tt has the rv size queen bed in the nose of camper. the bedroom is small. my wife sleeps there in comfort. im 6 foot so i feel cramped in there with her. my feet hang off end also. i sleep on the jack knife in living room. at some point i plan on removing the jack knife and getting a more comfortable futon thats comfortable as a couch and bed. a futon would still would be light weight

When we used to use our fold-out couch, we cut some pieces of 3/8" particle board and hinged them together. They went behind the couch when not in use. When we had company, we lifted off the awful mattress, put down the particle board and then put the mattress back on it. It was decent, but not the best thing I've ever slept on.

That's an interesting option. Our HAB had the option of an air mattress but I didn't want to air the thing up every night (son sleeps there). I figured I'd have to air the entire thing up like the old ones. The hybrid looks like a good option.

Sorry, I disagree! It doesn't matter WHAT kind of "topper" you add to the sleeper sofa, it will NEVER be comfortable. The spots where the bars are hinged will always be a pain in your neck, back, and ... well (farther South!).

When we need to use our sleeper for a guest, we just pull the air mattress out and inflate it right on the floor. THAT is MUCH more comfortable than fighting the dips, and bars, and bends on the sleepr sofa any day!

Memory foam mattress and store it under the main bed storage. That’s what we do.

I've never slept on a comfortable folding bed. I just assumed they're all designed for children and similarly framed people.

I've never met an RV sleeper sofa that was comfortable for either sleeping or sitting. It may not be an option for you if you have to have it for sleeping space, but the first thing we did was to remove the sleeper sofa and put my Ekornes recliner in its place.

We probably have the same hide-a-bed in ours. The mattress folds over three time so a 2" memory foam would add about 6". I don't think there's room for that.
