1st trip with a 5th wheel

After years of bumper pull campers and pop-ups we bought the big truck and a really big (to us) 5th wheel. We went to Gatlinburg east KOA and loved it. It pulls great. I worried a little about getting it in the site, but the staff their was great and helped us coming and going. Would recommend the KOA. The Grand Design was outstanding and we enjoyed the heated seats. And just a side note, I love the exhaust brake on the CTD.
  • Congratulations on a successful maiden voyage! More learning to come.
  • Congrats on your new camper. We had our maiden voyage this last week-end too. I posted a LOT of details from my experience (I guess kind of like a journal) of how the 5er was the same and different than 50 years of travel trailer experience.

Want an interesting read, It starts here. And ends Here.

I had fun living the experience and just as much fun writing about it.

Please feel free to share your experiences, what went good, what went not so good. With one trip under our belts now, the next one can only get better!

Enjoy that new 5er! And once again Congrats on the purchase, and Congrats on a successful trip!

No doubt. I pulled my 5er in the Rockies last year and the OEM exhaust brake was fantastic. Whenever I hook onto the 5er I engage the EB and tow/haul and it seems to do a great job of controlling speed and minimizing excess use of the brake pedal.

see if after decade or so, if you enjoy a staff member telling you which way to turn the steering wheel. :W
