2007 chevy vs 9500lb 5th wheel

I towed my 5th wheel with my Ram 1500 all last summer just fine. 9200lbs and 1625 pin weight (Dry). I had the 4.10 and tow limit of 10,400lbs. I was probably right at the max for tow rating but I was definitely way above my payload rating (especially with all the firewood in the back). The 5.7 Hemi had no issues pulling the trailer and the airbags leveled me off just fine.

The only reason I upgraded to the 2500 was to be legal. I went with the gas engine due to higher cost of diesel and you lose almost 1000lbs payload with the diesel.

In 2007 GM switched to the new body style and a newer designed 6.0 with a 6 speed transmission. The tow capacity for the new body style,2007.5, is about 2,500 lbs more than the early 2007.

But the 4 speed trucks were rated 2K less on the CGVWR. I know that the HD diesels were made in both body styles. But I don't know about the HD gas trucks.

Check the cargo capacity that is listed on the door sill. It shows load capacity for each axle of YOUR particular truck, not the generic model listed in the brochure. The towing limit is only achievable with a flatbed bumper pull trailer because there is much less weight on the trucks rear axle. A 5th wheel is a whole different animal and how much weight you can carry on the rear axle is what will limit you, not how much the engine can pull.

You should be fine up to the limit. Just don't outweigh your brakes or tire capacity.

Been there done that w/truck like your present one. I was not a happy camper. I upgraded to a Chev Duramax and am now a Happy Camper with a BIG SMILE.

My 2003 2500HD crew cab 4x4 with 4:10 gears is rated per the manual for 9800 lbs. Pulls fine. It will hit 3,000 RPMs on some of the longer hills and gas mileage is terrible but it does the job.

You sure 10000 is all that GM specked out with the 4.10 diffy?

My 6.2 Ford with 4.30 diffy would yank that thing down the road.

plan on getting new truck next year, diesel.

I would use the truck till with that trailer till you get the new truck next year.
Sure it won't run with the diesel crowd in the hills but it is what it is.
