2008 Jayco Eagle Super Lite power awning problem

Hello everyone I have a question about my power awning. It will only work when I use the power cord with the alligator clips attached to the terminals near the motor. When I try to hook up the original switch the way it was when I took it apart it just blows the 15amp fuse. Where would be a good place to start troubleshooting? Your help is always very appreciated.
