2nd battery install

I'd like to install a 2nd battery for weekends with no electric hook ups.. can anyone recommend a battery or type of battery to hookup.

I use three of the BLUE SEA four position HD battery switches here... these POSITIONS are OFF-BAT1-BOTH-BAT2... You can switch 'HOT' as well with the make before break switch contacts. All switch contacts sealed from the weather... Available from AMAZON



These serve as my main battery disconnect and also allows any or all of four connected 12VDC batteries to feed the system.

This works out great when you want to use one of the batteries for other use or independent charging with portable charger etc...

Often times it's recommended that 12 volt batteries be of the same age & group size when connecting in parallel. If that's what you intended, maybe re-think it.

If you don't already have a battery disconnect switch installed, now is a good time.

Get a Blue Seas switch # 6007. This will allow you to switch between two different batteries without power interruption. It has switch positions, Bat #1, Bat #2 & Bat #1+2

With that, you can purchase any group size 12 volt battery of your choice as your second battery.

Convert to 6V golf cart batteries. Better construction, more durable, better recharge life. Yea, you need two to make up 12VDC. But they sure do last better than any of the so called RV/Marine batteries.
