- valhalla360NavigatorOut on the road, it will make almost no difference (assuming the truck is rated to handle the larger unit).
It's in campgrounds with tight roads and tight spaces where there can be advantages to a smaller unit. - cmeadeExplorerI argued with my DW over an Alpine 3010RE (35') and a 3500 RE (39') and we bought the 39'. Looking back she admitted the longer 5ver has been the better choice for us. About 10 k mi and no problems driving and maneuvering and big difference in living space.
- lone_rangerExplorerMy 34' clears my 13' gate to the house but I'm not sure the 38' will. the dealership isn't helpful. All they say is 'there should be no problem". The 34' needs 19' radius turning distance. I can't get the dealer to try it at their site. I guess I'll have put pressure on them. "No test with my truck w/ 38' or no business".
- the_bear_IIExplorer4 feet is 4 feet so there will be a difference in tight spots but for the majority of travel no difference.
A test should be allowed by the dealer if they want the sale. - BB_TXNomadWill not be much difference in the towing except in very tight places. But the extra 4' may not fit in some campgrounds where the shorter one might.
- Me_AgainExplorer IIIWe went from a 31' OAL to a 39'4" this spring. So far some service stations have been to biggest challenge. We love the extra space, theater seating, 48" TV, large shower and lots of counter space. Sites at our winter park are 50' deep, so no problem. Towed fine in 40 MPH head and cross winds in Nevada on 93, with our 3500 RAM 4x4 CC SB SRW. Chris
- goducks10Explorer30' is 4' shorter than a 34', which is 4' shorter than a 38' and so on. If you keep adding length then you keep subtracting your choice for camp sites. If you generally stay in RV parks then you probably never have an issue. Forest Service type or even State parks will be tougher the longer you go at least out here on the west side of things.
As far as towing out on the road. My guess is you won't notice any difference.
30'-38' is the game changer. 34'-38' is not as much of a game changer. - B_O__PlentyExplorer III went from a 34 to a 40. I think it's easier to back. Turns slower. So much more room inside the trailer. I almost can't believe the difference. Wish we had done this sooner..
B.O. - Irelands_childExplorerWe went from a 34 to 38 foot 5er and have to say we will never look back. But with that said, we have so far found two CGs where we were assigned a site and couldn't back it into as well as several that took some extra maneuvering. But then we also went from a short bed truck to a long bed to compound the issue. The added 4 feet of wheel base on the trailer plus 2 feet on the truck created some interesting times - but that's all part of the fun
- VeebyesExplorer IIHow much difference really is there between a model #34, which will be near 36'LOA & a model #38, which will be near 40'LOA?
The tanks will be the same. The sofa will be the same. The table will be the same. The fridge will be the same. The sink will be the same. The stove will be the same. The TV will be the same.
You will get more counter space & more strage space plus a lot more floor space to maybe have a square dance in.
Worth the added cost & site restrictions of a longer unit? A matter of opinion.
