5er tires

I go for 24 hours then to the tire store and I always use LT's, have been a camper for a little over 45 years and have always done that since they started putting trailer tires on the campers, I use the Cooper LT's and have for a long time, they have been really good tires and I have had excellent service. If you know your axle weights and LT tires can handle it that's fine but to make a blanket statement covering ALL LR E ST tires is wrong. My rig came with LR E Blowmaxs. I have 12,100 on the axles and I know it's heavier on the DS. If I replaced with your recommendation I would be at the max rating for the LT tires and probably over on the DS. It has 7k axles so I went with Sailuns.

Even the name brand ST manufacturers recommend replacement at 3-5 yrs max, some even state be prepared to replace them at 3 yrs. I've had problems in the past even with Maxxis ST tires. So on my Cruiser I replaced the ST tires at 18 months with LTs. Since your Cruiser only has 5200 lb axles, LTs at load range E with 3042 lbs capacity per tire are more than enough and still 80 PSI. I went with BFG Commercial T/A's that are now 4 yrs old with 15k miles so far with no worries.

You can search here and irv2.com and rv.net and get hours of fun reading about tires. Bottom line is most St tires suck, especially Chinese tires, and if you get to three years without a blowout you're doing well. One mfgr. even states their life expectancy is three years. If you have 16" wheels that can handle 110psi, you should look at Sailuns.

Which 16" LT Michelin Ribs have a load capacity of over 3500 lbs?

My loaded axle weight is 9660# spread over 4 tires. I weighed it. Any 235/85/16 load range E LT tire can handle that. Yes it is a bit less than the ST were "supposed" to carry but I don't consider it an issue. 35,000 trouble free miles so far.

The only way I would keep the OEM tires is if they were Goodyear or Sailun.

I had two of the original tires blow after less than 8,000 miles and 2 years.

Some from the TT forum with 5k-6k trailers and 14" tires like to post on tire threads like this one bragging about some brand of ST tire they use on their liteweight trailers which generally don't work well with heavier trailers the size the OP has.
