5th wheel goose neck security

I have an Open Range 5th wheels with a goose neck adapter. Love it. But I'm constantly worried someone will pull the pin on the adapter when I'm not hooked up and steal it. Maybe that's because I was a cop for 27 years. I've tried to find a long enough pin lock like the dog bone type ( must have a 5 inch reach) but can't. Any ideas?

Anyone who wants to steal that 100.00 piece of steel is really in need of a life. Not to mention if it is set up right there is a jam bolt on the inside that is torqued to 250 ft/lbs making it almost impossible to just steal. If you are really concerned then drill the hole in the pin out enough to fit a small padlock on it. It won't hurt the pin an may make you feel a little safer.

Good luck

I guess I was over thinking it. It attaches with a long pin but (lightbulb moment), I can pull the pin and take it off and store it. Duh!

If you've been a cop then you know if a thief really wants it he'll take it. I doubt that there's a big market in hot goose neck adapters. ๐Ÿ™‚ A portable grinder is going to be able to cut through about anything you can try to lock it with. Keep it insured and hope for the best.

Not familiar with how it latches. Pull a pin and it comes completely off? They make long shanked padlocks with 5" shanks.

I think you are over worrying it. Unless you leave it in unsecured storage when not using it, I don't think you need to be concerned about someone walking off with it. Certainly not in an RV park or campground.
