6.6 liter gas engine

Is anyone pulling 15000 lbs with the new Chevy 6.6 liter gas engine? Does it have the power to pull the hills and not slow down. I have a 6.6 diesel and wonder how much I would be giving up in performance.
  • It will slow down depending on the grade percentage. In the hills and mountains, you may see 2nd gear and 35 mph. even a diesel will slow down on steep grades.

  • I don't think it will. TFL Truck did a youtube video of it pulling I think it was 14k up the Ike in CO, which I think is a 7% grade, and they got down to like 40mph. I think the 6spd trans, and only having 3.73 axle ratio really hurt it.
Towing that weight I think the best choice for a gasser is the Ford 7.3 gasser with a 10spd. It pulled that hill at the speed limit, and not to the floor. The Ram was between them.
  • 2016 Duramax here on a 5'er pulling about 16K all up. I don't see how a gas engine could do this.
  • Nope in my IMO I had a V10 Ford gas for my 14K 5er a few years back great Motor but it wailed like a banshee going up the passes I quickly sold it and got a D Max and never looked back
  • My 2c: I pull 11,600lbs dry, cargo capacity 2,000lbs with a 2014 Ford F250 Super Duty,6.2ltr, towing package, 4.30 rear. Although I'm comfortable with my combination, I would not what to push it up to 15,000lbs (+ cargo, + TV load) as I think that would be taxing the limits beyond what I would be comfortable with. (especially in an mountain terrain)
