- Big1Explorer III install my Firestone air bag myself, it was pretty easy, when I ask some of the shop to do it it was too much so I did it myself and glad I did. Now I want to install a compressor one day soon.
- golf_bearsExplorerIf you're currently in a camp ground and don't have the tools or feel confident with doing either job by yourself, check around with the other RVers. I'm sure you'll find all the help you need and it will only cost you a beer or two. RVers are a frienly group and always willing to help out.
Went through the same question as you, Air Bags or Timbrens, decided on Air Bags to help with leveling and smoother ride.
I did my own air back install, was relatively easy. - goducks10Explorer

Timbrens are about as easy as it gets. 2 bolts per side. Airbags are harder but really more time consuming than hard.
I'd be hard pressed to pay some one $100+ to install Timbrens. It's about 10 mins if you know what you're doing. 30 if slightly confused.
Try googling up a youtube video of people installing both.
what they don't show you is that the bolts are rusted and you cant get at them. ya I did mine on my 99 f250 and they took me two hours. only two bolts but man what a pain. having said that I still wouldn't have paid someone else to do it.
LOL, yeah I hadn't thought about older trucks. - StirCrazyModerator

- IdaDExplorerThe truck's springs are still present and still carry some of the load. The Timbrens I installed on my Ram are rated to carry 8600 lbs which you'd never actually approach, so they have plenty of excess load capacity.
- capri180Explorerjerem0621: I may be mistaken, but my understanding of the Timbren system is that they assist/enhance your vehicle's suspension system, so they would not take on the full load.
- jerem0621Explorer IIDo timbrens carry the full load when they engage or do the coils/leaf springs still carry some weight?
Thanks!
Jeremiah - capri180ExplorerI just installed Timbrens on my 2015 Ram 2500 yesterday afternoon. Start to finish was a half hour, that includes getting jack & tools out and putting away. As others have stated, it does not get any easier...2 bolts and done. I did not add the included spacers as they put the end of the Timbren too close to the axle stop. The last thing I want to do is affect the unloaded ride of the coil spring suspension. I chose Timbrens over air bags because they are cheap, quick to install, and no fuss.
- Second_ChanceExplorer IIDepending on the make and year of the truck, there may not even be bolts involved with the Timbrens (as was the case with my truck). I installed them on the driveway at our daughter's house one morning.
