Australian 5vers thought they disappeared

No , they have not disappeared although one company had to close down as the owner(70yrs) wanted a quiet life. Unfortunately they won awards for their aftermarket service
One thing that I have noticed most are building units about 26ft, which are easily pull able by Global Pickups. This is a 29ft non slide model pulled by an IVECO Daily. Comes as a Toy Hauler as well

It is because of the overhang svinging out the opesit side to the turn.

Why are tandem wheels set further back on there 5ers?

I commented on this to Robert, the OP, a few posts back. I remember reading, somewhere, that there is actually a reg on the amount of rear overhang allowed on towables in Australia. Never heard any reasoning for it, though.

This is a reg on Class C overhang. Having less than 10% toungue weight, is not good

Don't disagree at all, Robert. We about lost a freshly restored 1936 John Deere Model A (mine!) off the back-end of one of our implement trailers over concerns with overloading the truck, so had too little tongue weight. As it was, one rear tire was about 3" off the edge by the time we got it stopped from a max of about 45 mph. Cross-tied the snot outta that for sure! ๐Ÿ™‚

Just a guess, but 1) US is very conservative in tow vehicle axle ratings while 2) a higher pin weight in OZ helps with overall traction for off-road use.

Axle ratings tend to be heavier here , due to the much heavier loads carried by Trucks in Australia. As far as why the setback I do not know

Maybe they don't read these pages to see Joe Public would really like.

Reasonably common and this inside a Caravan, notice not a "Studio Shot"
