Awning repair

Ok.. Here's the deal: The awning on my 5er is in very good condition, except the area that is exposed when rolled up is deteriorating. It's peeling along the entire length. It's not thorn through the fabric is just peeling. I've taped it using a type of Duct tape and it lasts for a couple of month and then the tape starts to come off. Does anyone know of a good way to repair the fabric? I've bought the awning repair kits that they sell but that's only for small areas. I'm looking for something to fix the problem area which is about 16 ft by 6 in. Any suggestions?
thanks
  • When mine did that, I took the fabric off and took it to a tarp and awning shop. They cut off about 6" along the whole length and sewed in a new cord for $50. It's been a couple years and still looking good.
  • 1 - There's likely an awning or sail repair shop in your area that could cover this area with something nice looking and durable.
2 - I cut a long 12" wide section out of an old sail to clamp over the rolled-up awning when the rig is in storage, for protection.
  • I used with Flexseal or equivalent and LIGHTLY sprayed two coats on each side. Over one year now still looks good.
