Axle/weight question.

Not uncommon at all, different model axles made to take common componants is very common. What you will find, is the tube, spindles, hubs and springs will differ to make what ever rating they want.

In some cases the axles will use similar parts. In your case, you likely have 10.5 inch drums, but a more aggressive brake pad material than say a 3500 lb axle would have. When you go to a 5200 axle, the drum will be 12 inches, the same as the 6000 lb axle. The larger drum, with bigger pad, makes a noticeable difference in braking ability.

This email to me from Dexter axle as some newby folks thought because the trailers axle had the same diameter/width brakes they were all the same. I would s'pect the 4400-3500 axle brakes are similar.

I pulled them apart. The part numbers on the braking plates match TruRyde 3500# brake assemblies.

The axles are LCI axles. As we all know, anything goes with them.

I have contacted Lippert and was told they would have an engineer contact me. We'll see.

The GVWR is listed as 9680# and the yellow sticker has the UVW as 5592# and a cargo carrying capacity of 4048#. Tongue weight is right around 1000#.

Something is odd. Is the drum diameter 10" or 12"?

On the left hand front of the trailer should be a Federal tire and axle rating sticker. Look at this tag for the "as manufactured" GAWR.

Brakes need to match up to the certified GVWR and GAWR numbers on the federal tag.

I second the sharing of components. For my axles on my 18' flatbed the springs themselves are the same as the 3500# axles.

There are given sized brakes (width and diameter) that are used on several axles sizes, based on what the spindle diameter is, which dictates which drum / hub fits.
