B&W 3600 and my RAM 3500 Mega Cab w/Pucks

I know this topic on 'hitch selection' has been talked about over and over but I'm still a little confused about which direction to go; going with a stationary hitch versus a sliding hitch with our RAM 3500 Mega Cab diesel and it's 6' bed. I've read posters going with both and both having pro's and con's. We have the factory installed puck system, therefore don't want to have to go with a hitch that requires a bunch of under bed modifications in addition to what came from the factory, want the ease and convenience of puck drop and play installation, but want something strong and reputable as well. We just bought a Heartland LM365 Newport 5W so we're looking at a Dry Weight of 15,231 lbs and a Hitch Weight of 3,210 lbs. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!
  • There's sliders and non sliders available for the puck system. No under bed stuff needed. Drop the hitch in turn the handles a quarter turn, and your done.
  • Hitches aren't rated by the meaningless dry weight of an RV. What's your RV's GVWR? That's what a hitch has to be capable of handling.

I looked it up. GVWR is 18k. RVK3270 is rated to 4500 pin weight and 18k gross weight. Chris
  • All depends on how careful you are. A B&W RVK3600 is used by lots of people with SB trucks. They mount the head behind the axle. Normally I would advise against that but the Cummins weighs so much 100-150# off the front won't hurt a thing. If your RV has a radiuses front cap I would go for it. Or do as MeAgain did with a Demco adapter and B&W slider.
  • My current truck is an 06 Mega and I have non-slider B&W and have not had any issues turning, but I am aware I can't go more that 85-88 or whatever the curved noses are rated to turn.

Weight specs for the RVK3600 is

    25000 LB. GTW
    6250 LB. VTW
  • Thanks for the suggestions and confirmations. Appreciate the great information.

Too much trailer or too little tow vehicle. Your choice.

Maybe it is a dually, the Mega Cab does come in a SB dually. If it is a SRW, then you are correct, he will be over the rear axle weight rating with that trailer. Dry pin weight is 3210. Chris
