B&W Companion Hitch Shock replacement

JWDryHeat

Just called B&W and they are sending me a new shock for my RVB3300 hitch. Wow. No money required, will be here on a couple days. Now, how do I replace it? Has anyone done this? Does it require taking the whole upper end apart?

its an easy job, i did mine last summer in about an hour or so. B&W was nice enough to send me a free replacement shock for the head.

Jerry, really?? You want Ron to report you to the B&W club??

Did you know there is 1 single grease zerk as well?

There =should= be 3. Should be a 90 zerk to grease the head pivots so you can grease without having to take the head off to do so. Been wanting to drill and tap these for years, but have never gotten roundtuit. ๐Ÿ™‚

I only have 1... The bushings are accessible once the head is removed...
HITCH MAINTENANCE
Grease the saddle through the grease zerk
approximately every six months with multipurpose grease. This allows the coupler to
pivot freely.
As needed, grease the polyurethane bushings
with high-grade lithium grease.
Spread a thin layer of multi-purpose grease around the
inside surface of the jaws where they grasp the kingpin.

Yes, I do do this, yearly. (I don't tow all that much, right now.) Jaws get greased every couple trips.

Well, cr@p. Now I =do= have a round tuit, so I'm going to have to do this. Fortunately, we have POWER at our shop! ๐Ÿ™‚

B&W answered this question with the instructions that came with the shock. Now I need to get a 1 1/2 inch wrench times two.

Yes. I've had one sitting in my garage for several years because of this. Once we finally get power to our shop, I'll get the hitch torn down and get mine replaced.

Love B&W's customer service. I have the old 16k hitch and every 3-4 years they have to send me new u-bolts when I break one off. I keep the unbroken ones for just-in-case. ๐Ÿ™‚

If I remember correctly, it's not a bad job at all to replace the damper. The bolt on mine broke at some point, don't remember when exactly, but they sent a replacement, no charge and no questions asked. Superior customer service IMO.

Ron kind of owes me, from helping him recover from a forum issue a while back, so doubt he will make an official report.:p

Yes Joe, I know about the zerk, but thanks for the heads up!

Maybe Barney can remove all posts necessary, to make the red face go away!!
