Don’t have a 5th wheel now but am thinking of upgrading in the future. I came across a slightly used B&W Companion hitch locally for $450cdn. Seems like a good deal even though I don’t need it yet but I am wondering if it’s a good idea with a short box (6’4”). Most newer fivers have rounded fronts and from what I’m reading most people don’t feel the need for a slider.
Jump on it or wait and fork out for a slider?
This is exactly what I did when I bought my Companion for my short box Silverado. Found one used on Craigslist in good condition and added the turnover ball underbed receiver later. Seems like that was just about what I paid for mine. It has worked great for me without having a slider. Some folks might shy away from a used hitch but I just don't see a whole lot that can go bad on a B & W hitch so I see no reason to pay new price.
