B&W Companion vs Andersen Ultimate Showdown!

I just got the go ahead that I’m getting an Andersen Ultimate coming to me. I’m going to be able to switch back and forth between it and my B&W Companion for a bit to compare them side by side.

I have the B&W already. The Andersen should get here next week.

I absolutely love my B&W, so it’s going to be tough to sway me. Either way, it’s gonna be fun!

"I know your speaking from first hand experience with is hitch aren`t you."

Why do you think they had to re engineer the original Ultimate??? It got the "folding hitch" name for a reason. Their "As seen On TV" video does NOT address the fore and aft conditions these hitches are subject to.

NOT speaking from "First Hand Experience". Sure easy to see why these hitches can fold and also cause bed deflection.

Chris... are we talking exploring vertical forces, or horizontal with that pyramid frame? I don't get it...got any pics from back then?

Personally I would much rather separate from the 5th wheel in the case of a rollover, but it's pretty easy for them to state, after the incident, that "Yeah, we planned it that way". 🙂 Either way, it works for me.

I think I feel that way- but I like the idea of the truck definitely being kept in front of the fifth wheel vs. it coming through the back window.

So basically- I just don't want to wreck and find out in either direction. :B

This I believe to be TRUE.

An acquaintance of mine rolled his camper over on ice a few years back. Same thing- hitch head popped off of the arms.

Shoot, the Andersen hitch is an okay hitch, but I don't know that I'd call it a "wonder hitch". Unless you "wonder" if it might fail during that hard downhill braking maneuver. 🙂

How about the B&W losing its head if you have to do an evasive maneuver to miss a deer or a wayward car.
You mean when the trailer rolls over, like what actually happened?

In my post on towin in high winds yesterday on I-8, if the trailer was going to get blown over I would be happy that the hitch separated from the truck and let it go, leaving the truck on it's wheels.

I guess if you engineer for all possible scenarios the hitch would be too heavy to be hauled by anything other than a semi. 🙂

We know that pyramids stand up to vertical force very well and pass Andersen vertical pressure test. It is the horizontal forces that come into question.

I had a 'slightly strange' girl friend years ago that had a pyramid frame built over her bed! She believed in the power of the pyramid, and I explored the theory quite a few times with her.
