battery in fifth wheel

we recently bought a 2002 sunnybrooke 27 RKFS and we have it plugged in to electricity but the battery wont stay charged we replaced the old one with a new one and everything was working but the battery is now dead what are we doing wrong what do we do to keep it charge.......please help
  • Maybe your trailer has a parasitic device with a small draw. My trailer has a propane detector that draws about 1 amp. It has been such a problem running the battery down when we are away for a few days that I wired a switch in it.

  • If you are handi and know how to use a mutimeter you need to check the voltage to the battery when you are pluged in and it should be charging, you should have voltage reading around 13.6 volts if it is a normal basic conveter/charger. You could have a blown fuse or bad convertor/charger.
  • When the battery was replaced, did it get hooked up backwards ( reversed polarity )? Are the fuses good on the convertor? Is the breaker tripped for the convertor?? Do you have a battery disconnect switch?? Is it on??
  • Is there a battery switch to move to the on position?
If you have a portable charger you can put it on direct tonight for charging.
  • Hi,

The battery is charged by a device called a converter. Some of them are mighty poor at charging.

Let us know the make and model of the converter.

Are you in the unit all the time or is it just used for the occasional weekend?
