Batwing Antenna

Just bought the Batwing antenna and looking to install. The directions say it must be located 10" away from nearest obstruction. That makes sense to me IF I wanted to be able to fold it down in every direction. But does it matter if I only want to lay it down in ONE direction? Our current, stock, antenna is located within 10" of the A/C unit. I'd like to install the Batwing in the same spot where the current antenna is located, just because the coaxial cable is already there. So, if I removed the current antenna, and installed the Batwing in that location, which would be within 10" of the A/C, couldn't the Batwing be folded down in a direction away from the A/C?
  • Thanks guys. That is what I needed to know. I put a thread on here when we decided to purchase a better antenna. I asked for advice on which antenna to buy. The Batwing was recommended the most. After I made the purchase, some members suggested newer models that they said were an improvement over the Batwing. But I had already purchased the Batwing so I'm going to stick with it.
  • Just make sure that where it lays has room for the antenna head, wings, and if installed the Wingman. There are some antennas that as about as good but none better than the Winegard Batwing. I’ve owned several.
  • Yes, you can install it there. That's lawyereze language. Make sure your antenna folds correctly based on the arrow of the inside crank. Once the antenna is up it doesn't care where it is on the roof. That said, there are other antennas that supposedly bring in better reception than the batwing and they don't have to be cranked up or down. Have you explored those? Perhaps someone who uses them can chime in. My experience with batwings is many years ago as we don't use ours.....Dennis
