Black Tank Flush

O.K. Last question for a while. The maiden voyage in our new Cougar 30RLS went great.. Other than all the Ticks.. Fridge was cold, Water heater works, A/C was cold, couldn't have been happier. Then we went to leave. I hooked up the hose to the black tank flush turned it on and then... Nothing. Its like it's not even hooked up. It pressurized the hose but would not flow to the black tank. Is it possible its not hooked up? Or could it be blocked off for some odd reason??? I see a winterization valve.. A water heater bypass valve... But no other valve. Am I missing something??????? In our passport all you did was hook the hose up and turn on the water... This should be the same correct???

We too have a brand new 30RLS and the exact same problem. I traced it down to the one way valve plumbed backwards. I bought a pex tool and some new fittings and fixed it myself. Keystone also reimbursed me for the new tool.
  • Madien voyage...you ever use it before? Could of been some junk in the line and it just got pushed further into plumbing system...like a small piece of plastic.
I also have those rubber hose gaskets with stainless steel filter. Like most washing machines hoses use...just in case water system is on a well and small tiny rocks or sand or ?? Make there way to you. Took me 2 faucets to learn that. All my hoses have then.

The aforementioned check valve is typically a cheap plastic thing that should be replaced with something better. To get to it I think the plate mounted on the outside of the camper wall needs to be loosened and pulled out to get at the check valve.
This is why we, on the Forum, suggest the first night should be spent in the driveway!

I fail to see how camping in the driveway would have caught this. Unless, I suppose you try to flush at home.

Glad to see your outing went well other than this issue.

  • Typical Black Tank Flush System 'anti-siphon vacuum breaker backflow preventer'
Black ones are cheapest -----better ones are clear/white plastic and then brass ones

Water from hose connection comes in thru BOTTOM connection and then flows out to nozzle in tank thru SIDE connection

  • More than likely, that vacuum check valve is connected backwards. Look under your bathroom sink, see if you see 2 pipes coming through the floor with a black thing commenting them at the top. Unscrew it from the pipes and reverse it. I will probably work then.

  • You are correct, no other system should come into play. You may have a stuck check valve where the hose connects. The vacuum breaker/check valve inside may be faulty or the tank connection/nozzle may be messed up. Other than that, maybe a pinched hose.
