curious about water flow

Since our black water gauge doesn't work, after I dump I refill with fresh water but have no way to measure how much I put in. The external fill is direct to the flusher from the campground hose bib. I use a 25' 3/4" hose and let it run about 3 minutes with the dump valve closed. Anyone have any idea how much water that might be? I don't have a bucket. Also have one of those Oxygenic shower heads and always wondered how much that uses. The hose hookup has a pressure reducer on it, of course, just not the flusher.

    Put the end of the hose in a 5 gal bucket and determine the time to fill it. Going into the tank will reduce the flow a little but that will give you a ballpark number

    I run the flush kit sprinkler until the sound of the sprinkler inside gets quiet. This means it is under water and about half way full. Then I dump as I flush. Only once per trip. No chemicals needed Works for me

    Nothing wrong with that I guess IF your life style fits nicely with your dump schedule BUT.....it certainly is not necessary. A couple of gallons should be plenty. With a smaller RV and smaller tank, a couple of flushes should do nicely.

    Wait a sec. The OP seems to think that he is putting water directly into the black tank......and that might not be what is happening at all.

    Don't you?

    I add at 3-5 gallons after I close my black tank valve.

    To determine how much water you are adding to your black tank do this. Let all the fluid drain from the tank. Place a 5 gallon bucket under the black tank outlet. Turn on the tank flush and set your timer for one minute. Now how much water is in the bucket? That is your GPM formula.

    Yes water pressure may play a role in this but it will get you a good enough idea what you are actually adding.

    I have 2, just in case.... You will be surprised how slowly the rinser fills the black tank.
