Design Flaw On 2007 Keystone Hobbi 220 Toyhauler

Hi Folks, I'm new to this forum, but would like to share a recurring problem I've been having with my 2007 Keystone Hobbi Toyhauler an was wondering if any of you have had similar issues. I am the 2nd owner of this 26' Toyhauler. Overall, it's been a great camper........except for this one flaw. The curved front cap is a really thin/brittle material that I would compare to Formica, or countertop material. When road debris like gravel hits this material, it will fracture and eventually split from one side to the other. In fact my camper is in the repair shop as of this writing having the front cover replaced a 2nd time since I've owned this camper. Only this time, I insisted that they use a diamond plate aluminum as a choice of material for the repair as opposed to a brittle piece of laminate. I'm hopeful and optimistic that this next repair will be final.

  • Roger welcome to RV.net. Sorry about the issues you've had with the front, I did some searching and couldn't find any issues about the Hobbi front but other Keystone units like the Outback have had issues. Doing a google image search I found a couple with wavy caps but none that were splintered. But several had the decals removed, which might be a sign of problems. Covering with diamond play should help with that, as long as you check the caulking to make sure water doesn't get under and in between the diamond plate and cap.
  • If there is a way to get behind the plastic cap, one could use cans of spray rubber sealant and make a 1/8 inch thick layer. This would reinforce the plastic cap. act as an insulator, sound deadener, and absorb vibration of rock chips.
    Just a thought......
  • I have to check our Fuzion every time there's hail. Couple years ago we got a slight crack in that waaay-too-thin-&-brittle plastic, didn't realize it until DW pulled moldy slippers out of closet.
