Since there does not currently seem to be a Jayco owners forum, Moderator Frank has graciously allowed this thread. It will be for discussing Jayco related questions and comments. Anything not Jayco related will be deleted. Sounds more than fair to me. Thank-you Frank!

Just removed my under-oven drawer and took a look. My gas line is behind, not above the drawer and well out of the way.

Looks like you may have bought one built on a Monday...

*Safety Issue* FYI:
(Sorry - no good way to make this a "short story")

I have a 2006 Designer 31RKS.
All models of Designers for 2005 (and/or previous/later years) *may* share the same stove/oven.
Maybe *all* Jayco models?

There is a (one) drawer *underneath* the stove/oven combo.
At some point in time, the plastic holder -"drawer socket" for the glides- at the rear of the drawer glide broke, causing the drawer to drop off the tracks.

Upon removing the drawer, it appeared the "fine Amish craftsman", had installed a "backer board" at the rear to which the plastic drawer glide "holders" were attached - with only ONE screw!.:(

This allowed the board to move up or down on one side - which caused the holder to break.

Should add here - it's a real PITA to get down on the floor to work on this!

Seemed an easy repair - replace plastic holder, re-mount board correctly (more than a single screw) and done!

However.....The Safety Issue:
On installing same - I discovered the drawer would hit the (rigid) copper gas line to the stove/oven!
Absolutely no way to close the drawer without *seriously* impacting the gas line.
The line is 15" rearward from the cabinet face. The drawer is 18" deep.

Hmmmmm - apparently the aforementioned Amish Craftsmen - discovered their error, and "corrected" same by most likely (one or both):
1. Mounted the drawer glide hardware at a "down angle" (not level) - which would allow sufficient clearance for the top of the drawer -vs- the gas line.
2. Mounted the board with the single screw - so one side would "dip down" (below) the gas line when impact took place.
Regardless - the installer did a "Mickey Mouse" job - figuring nobody would ever know!
Exemplary Jayco Quality Control..:(

At the factory - the gas line should have been longer - leaving the necessary space for the drawer to clear the line.

The fix - easiest was to shorten the depth ("box") of the drawer so it wouldn't hit the line in question.

Important part:
Had the plastic "drawer socket" not broken, I would never have known about the "problem".
Repeated use (and this drawer is probably used infrequently - if at all) could have caused the gas line to - bend, break, or leak at the stove/oven connection with a potentially *BAD -to- VERY BAD* outcome!!.:(

Soooooo ....bottom line -
*If* you have a drawer under the stove/oven:
Remove drawer.
Get down on hands and knees and see if the gas line will clear the top of the drawer "box" with the drawer in the closed position.

It should be obvious if the drawer needs to "tilt" to do that,
or the drawer glide rails are not level front to back.

Of course, you may have had a different and/or more conscientious factory installer!

I wrote to Jayco Customer Service to let them know I'm unhappy with the hum and to find out what can be done about it. Here's their response:

"Thank you for taking the time to contact Jayco. The only thing that you could do would be to purchase a new transfer switch and have it installed. Because the transfer switch is functioning as it was designed Jayco is not willing to cover any of the repair."

Are you ever going to be close to the manufacturing facility? You could push the isse with them. If not, I think you may be best going to an actual trailer (semi) repair on the pin issue.

On our trailer I cleaned the roof this weekend and it appears that the "white has come off in about 40%. It's manilla colored so I'm not sure if that's the rubber or what? Any input? I thought it would be black underneath. Not sure where I go from here. At need to contact Jayco as I have done yearly maintenance.

I also had a blowout a few weeks ago. No warning and an internal belt failure. Good amount of damage that need to repair. Looking at posts it appears that there may have been a bad run around April of 07. FYI. Has anyone here looked at 17.5" wheels and tires? It's a little more but I get new wheels as well.

Well -- we finally got the recall done. At the first campground, we had no hum. THIS campground -- LOUD hum! ๐Ÿ˜• Kayak30336 -- did you get yours replaced yet?

We also have two new slide toppers and two new shocks. ๐Ÿ˜„

They suggested I keep caulking the side every couple of weeks or as needed. I think I'll have to come up with something else. ??

1. Pull the drawer all the way out.
2. On either side you will see a black plastic thingy (that's the technical word) that's kinda like a spring. On the one side (I think the left), the movable part goes UP; the OTHER side, it goes DOWN.
3. Squash both thingies at the same time and the drawer will come all the way out.
4. To put back in, no squashing is necessary. Line them up, push, and they will click.

I have had several of these drawers bust out the bottoms in 5 years. don't be afraid to use extra screws. If they go thru, just cover the sharp end with a bit of foam and/or duct tape so you don't scratch anything or draw blood.

Ok have a question...

In the bedroom I have the door and 3 drawers in place of where the washer/dryer option would be...below the TV that swings out

I have to repair the bottom of one of the drawers but can't figure out how to get the drawer out so I can work with it...any ideas or suggestions?

Well that weekend didn't go too bad, fridge goes from off to frozen solid in 4 hours. It was snowing pretty good and the weather didn't get warm till we got home. Guess we'll analyze that issue when it gets warmer.

L&M, we have some flex as well when we hook up but no separation at the seam. The service manager suggested getting it inspected ASAP. He told us that Jayco has pretty good frames that hold up very well. He guessed that there may have been an overweight vs bad road issue. He must have a super crystal ball or some experience, who knows.

Kayak, we had our recall done last Thursday and we get no loud hum with 30 amp shore power @ 2 locations or with generator. I discussed your issue with service manager and he thinks your problem may be your power source. I have an on-board power monitor and my input power stays within 110-130 range (green). If all check out as good he suggested another switch box.

I have had some separation on the right side, only the right. But my nose does settle a lot when I hook up. I'm sure if I drove the miles you do I would have the same issue. I'm pretty sure we have the same frame underneath. I intend to inspect and beef our pin up in the future

The vertical separation of which I wrote is evident in the first photo. It started over a year ago. I caulked it, but the caulk didn't hold -- even though it was the flexible kind. The duct tape is just there to keep the rain out.

We just noticed the other damage recently, visible in the second photo, down by the landing gear.

This all could have come about when we had a suspension problem last year, but I didn't see a link until now. That problem has been fixed (April, 2012).

Hey L&M, It's been awhile.
Our Dometic microwave bit the dust last fall (bad park power). We spent all winter looking for replacements, we've discovered that no one makes the 22" microwave any more, not even Jayco. We wound up getting it fixed at a local repair shop. We purchased a small table top model from camping world and they "transferred" parts from the new one to our old one so we wouldn't loose the lights and exhaust fan. Total cost was $150. We got lucky. Can you post some pictures of your separation? I can inspect ours and give you a comparison.

Kayak30336, thank you for your input. We get ours replaced at the end of this week and with your information we'll be sure to check it out with both shore and generator BEFORE we leave. They can always put the old one back in.

Getting ready for a 4 day weekend (after recall) to flush the pink stuff and ready the 5vr for the 4 week trip to Yellowstone/Rushmore.

Hope everyone is well,
Ed & Elizabeth
