Dirt Devil Rug Rat

Just a heads up, for those as dumb as me.

We have a Dirt Devil "central vac" in our rig. The Rug Rat attachment quit spinning. I took it all apart, cleaned it, lubricated it with silicone spray. All to no avail. So we started to look for a new one:
$59.95 U.S.

So then I thought, how long has it been since I put a new bag in the vacuum? We don't use it much so this is not top of mind.

I opened it up and was a little surprised to find it completely full.

I put in a new bag and "voila" it all ran like new.

I really should know better.

DW is very pleased

You have a nice rig there.

The Corsair was the sister brand to the Citation. Built in Oliver BC, regrettably out of business now. Very well built units. My cousin in Kelowna has a Corsair.

We planned this as our retirement rig. As the kids grew up, we went through the usual units: tent trailer then hard side pop up then travel trailer then fifth wheel.

We bought this rig as "new" inventory, but one year old (on the lot). We knew that General Coach was already closing down, but we were not really concerned as the dealer promised to honor the warranty (and he did). We had really taken our time (years) in picking this unit. We toured the factory as well and interviewed (interrogated) the plant manager.

It has proven to be a good choice.

Cheers. We are visiting our first grand baby in Vernon BC (with the rig) right now. +30 C, blue sky, God I love BC.

I just noticed your response now. Yes, we toured the General Coach factory in 2005 and bought a new Citation Supreme 28.5 RKS soon after. We loved that trailer and it was completely trouble free in the ten years we owned it. We now have a 5 year old boy and found the 28.5 was getting a bit small for us. We always loved the 34.5 CKTS model and finally found one in good condition last winter for a pretty good price. We had to travel to Edmonton for it but it was well worth it because we absolutely love the unit. It is very well made and has much more room in it. We plan on keeping it for a long time.

Congratulations on the first grand baby and we love Vernon as well!

Your rig looks very familiar ;). We are on our second General Coach fifth wheel which we bought early this year. They truly are great well built units.

Thanks for the reminder on the vacuum bag. I normally change ours a couple of times per year and clean the vacuum canister out well to keep it fresh. I haven't changed the bag in this unit yet but will on our next trip out.
  • Just to add to the full bag thing. I've found since the newer white replacement bags, the material they use is fairly easily plugged or restricted with vacuuming up things like spilled salt or fine sand. It apparently restricts the pours of the bag. In that case the bag doesn't have to be "full", but needs to be replaced for the vacuum to suck good again. Liquids/water on the floor does the same thing. Just sayin' rockin'

That is an easy thing to overlook.

Especially when the dealer either filled the bag cleaning the unit, or ran it without a bag to clean the unit.
