Electric awning adjustment

I just bought a new (to us) toy hauler, 2011 Forest river 35x12 and it has a dometic electric awning. My issue is that with the awning extended it hangs really close to the kitchen slide, and if the wind blows it will slap the top of the slide. I am worried about contact with the corners eventually punching a hole in the fabric. I looked and it seems like the only way to bring the entire awning up is to shorten the awning fabric, because when its all the way out the arms are fully extended. Any ideas?

The arms should not be straight- there should be a bit of bend in them- once it is out, run it back in just a bit:
