Eliminating new trailer smell?

When I bought my 12 yr. old 5th wheel it had that new smell also. I tried the odor absorbers which were somewhat effective until they reached the 2 month mark and then no longer worked. I bought several small pumpkin spice candles and placed them in different areas from front to back. This works very well. Now every time I open the door to go inside it smells like fresh baked pumpkin pies inside the trailer. Just keep in mind, get a scent that you really enjoy smelling. Worse case scenario; if you don't like the scent burn the candles and try a different scent. I have had the candles inside the trailer for over a year now with no lessening of the scent. If you decide to try this route, I do suggest that you find some candles that are wrapped in plastic. Just tear off a portion of the plastic on top but leave the sides and bottom wrapped in plastic. The reason for this is during the summer, if your trailer stays shut up, you don't want the candles to inadvertently melt when the temperature rises inside a closed trailer. Only time and wear is going to eliminate that because the fabric has the preservatives in it, now hard surfaces you can use commercial cleaners to fix that but curtains cushions well sun and time will be the only way to do that, oh yeah take your cushions outside and let them bake in the sun, but don't let them get wet.

X2... We've tried several types of de-odorizing... A simple .78 cent box of "flow through" baking soda seems to work best for us. Use a couple extra boxes in different locations for larger rigs.

I, too, am very sensitive to certain smells and can develop an immediate migraine from scented candles and air fresheners, so I can't use either of those methods. I was wondering what I would do about the new trailer smell in our 2013 Bighorn, then came across this mini-article in Canadian Living magazine, March 2013, page 111. Haven't tried it yet but am eager to try a more 'natural' approach. Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the ideas so far. One question ... if you turn the heat up for an extended time, dont you have to worry about burning your furnace up? We are airing out every day and using the baking soda intended just for smells, but don't think it is helping much. Called the dealer, but they really didn't have any other ideas. Getting frustrated as we would like to head out, but don't think I can handle the smell as it is. Going to try calling the manufacturer to see if they can help.

Try Damp Rid hanging bags. They seem to leave a pleasant smell.

don't use a ozone machine as it will dry out any rubber seals I work for a restoration company and we dont use because of that reason , you can try to use a hydroxal machine that will eliminate the odor.

The others that have mentioned using the furnace and then airing out are right on the money......That new furnace smell is pretty nasty also!

and then you're back to the ammonia again...
