Eternabomd Primer

Anyone who has used the eternabond tape, is it necessary to use the primer? I purchased the cleaner , but not the primer. I had wanted to do the job this weekend, but may have to wait.
Also, will the tape adhere to fiberglass?

Whats the "less painful" way to remove silicone?
Soften silicone with carb cleaner. Scrape, wipe, repeat. Finally, acetone to remove residue and moisture.
  • The cleaner is all you need just make sure it's very clean but like others have already said you need to remove all of the silicon sealnt as it has no place on an rv and will always cause you troubles in the future.

Thanks. I want to apply eternabond on the edges of my slide where water was leaking into a cabinet. I had used silicone caulk as a quick fix. The directions say Eternabond won't stick to silicone. Do you think I need to remove it, or will the edges of the tape that are not touching silicone be enough to adhere and hold it steady?

Nothing sticks to silicone and even the residue once it is removed will prevent anything from sticking. You need to remove it, sand the area thoroughly to remove the residue, clean with acetone, sand again and clean again. Then you can be pretty sure it's all gone. Chuck

Try to remove as much of the silicone as possible. I use a plastic scraper cut from old plexiglass. In lieu of a primer, I still use acetone. t will dissolve the silicone and make for easier removal.

  • No. I just used the recommended mineral spirits and a roller to press it down hard enough to activate the adhesive and it worked great. Five years later and it's still one with the roof.
  • The primer is mainly for cold temp applications if I remember correctly. And it definitely will stick to .
