- Mike_LeClairExplorerI am thinking that at the rate that these RV appliances of ours are cratering we will replace or repair each of our appliances at least once, maybe twice by the end of 2018 when our extended warranty expires. They just don't make stuff like they used to I guess.
Cheers!
Mike - GreentreenaExplorerwe had our brand name RV fridge went at year 6 of our 7 year extended warrenty, we came ahead just on that incident alone. It is like insurance, nice to have when you need it. I couldn't have replaced the fridge when it went if I didn't have the warrenty.
- Paul_ClancyExplorerFrom what I'm reading here many are having repairs done in the first year or 2 (most appliances are multi year warrANty ) and they are thinking the extended paid for itself when the base warranty would have covered it perfectly fine.

We have XTRA RIDE and have used it on 2 different units. Paid all but a 75.00 deductible
I usually never buy extended service policies. When I bought my fifth wheel, we knew that we were planing on using it for at least 5 years or more, so I purchased the Xtra Ride. I've had it for 18 months and it's paid for itself since the repairs were made AFTER the 1 year warranty had expired and not covered. This year we've spent 16 weeks in the unit and traveled 15,000 miles in the trailer since we bought, so it is on the road alot and all the things that were repaired where while we were on the road and the "do it yourself" option was not possible. You will have to weigh all the anwsers here to see which one best applies to your planned usage and how long you plan to keep it. - lillyputzExplorer IIIn my opinion. If you buy a redwood. You might look into a extended warranty.
Lillyputz - Mike_LeClairExplorerWe succumbed to the pressure of the sales guy and purchased an extra 5 year warranty through SAL. We have had three major repairs to date outside of the MFG's warranties including a new converter (WFCO POS) R&R, a cooling unit R&R and a new control box for our water heater. $50.00 deductible one time and all other costs are covered (at least so far). Cost of repairs so far are just shy of $1,200.00 with the fridge repair the most costly at $800.00. I am a very hands on wrench pusher and do a lot of repairs of the small stuff on this RV. Anything major involving appliances and so on gets put on the warranty.
Cheers!

The vendors of the extended warranties would not be offering them unless there were big bucks to be made.
Keep the eyes open. Do the preventative maintenance. Most things that break are minor in nature & not too difficult for the average guy with a decent set of tools & ability to use them. The average DIY guy will spend less a year than what the extended warranty is going to cost.
It is good to know how to DIY anyhow. When things go wrong you are usually far from home & that dealer people trust so much.
Very well said. Use the Rv a LOT in the first year a and make lists for the dealer. Don't ignore small things and don't fall for a dealer who says "oh that's not covered". Call the manufacturer if need be but get the issues repaired or at least documented in the first year. A good dealer and a manufacturer who stands behind their warranty are far more valuable than an extended warranty. - VeebyesExplorer IIThe vendors of the extended warranties would not be offering them unless there were big bucks to be made.

I bought it for mine for 2k and a 60.00 deductible For 4 years
With in 1 year tv went out and grey tank valve broke inside my cover underbelly and a slide issue
cost about 1200.

I never buy Extended Warranties either. BUT, when we purchased our Forest River product we got a second year warranty direct from Forest River, not a 3rd party, for $150. I couldn't pass it up for that price.
That is something I would do if I was buying again. With our present 5'er we bought an extended warranty from a 3rd party with the stipulation that if we didn't use it we would get a refund. Six years later we never used it and we filed for our refund and the company went out of business, taking thousands of customers' money. NEVER AGAIN!! SCAM!! This is a common problem with these type of companies. Then they start up again under a new name.
