Fading 12 volt lights

My 12 volts dim intermittently (for about 2 seconds), then go back to normal illumination. Any ideas? Battery or inverter?
  • I just bought my "spare" which I think I may be needing soon.

Carrying a spare may come in handy, even if turns out to be your battery.
  • Without a doubt.....The convertor is going bad. Same thing happened to me last summer. If you listen carefully, you may be able to hear the convertor cycling when the lights go dim and then bright again. Purchased a new one and replaced it myself at the campground we were staying at. Since it was an exact model for model replacement it took 20 minutes, tops.
  • How dim? Mine dropped to half brightness and it was a fuse in the converter. If yours are intermittent, it might be a failing converter.
  • If the lights are constant when on battery power only, and then the problem occurs when you're plugged into shore power (or a generator), then it is the converter going out. Had the exact same thing happen to me.
  • Battery. Are you plugged into shore power? Typically you may see some dimming of lights if some heavy current draw timeline the furnace comes on.
