I have a quick questionMany places I have shopped for a fifth wheel hitch want to use a "universal installation" kit, that looks to be some 90* angle brackets and nothing more.I see Reese (possibly others) have custom mounting brackets that supposedly need no drilling or cutting and use existing holes for a custom fit.I am thinking the custom mounts would be the way to go since I am so "anal" about fit/finish and strength.Thanks in advance.

B&W x3.Whatever you decide, get something that is designed for your truck and used the existing bolt holes.

Get the Reese custom kit. It is definitely worth the extra cost in my opinion.

My elite is rated at 25K, knew I wouldn't be pulling anything quite that heavy but thought more is better than not enough, they make either a 16K or 18K also. Clean bed after removal is best part of it.

I had a B&W companion for years and have the turnoverball in the truck. I bought a Andersen ultimate connection hitch from tweetys and will never go back. It is very lightweight, easy to take out and stopped 90% of the chucking i had. It mounts right to the B&W gooseneck ball.

Probably over thinking the strength of the universal mounts, rigs we have looked at are all under 14K. Might be a different story if I was pulling a triple axel 40' model.

From looking at your signature you probably have the factory Ford installed fifth wheel set up !!! If that is true than the elite reese is the only hitch that will fit ..

really? is it just the elite or just reese brand? seems crazy they would limit you to just one brand and then only the high end of their brand.

The bottom one is what I with the used plates I got with the used hich it kind of perplexed me a little as it only used two bolts per side though the frame rails on my older F250. Easy to install because it used factory holes.

Have you found a new trailer yet?

If I was doing the install myself I'd probably go with the custom brackets but I had a shop do mine and they used the universal kit.
