Finished the disc brake conversion

I have finally changed my electric brakes to hydraulic discs and thought I'd just report in that I am extremely happy with the results. We put on the 13" Kodiaks and the Titan pump. I got it all from stopyourtrailer.com. It actually was easy, with the only real difficulty coming from finding the wires for the brakes and breakaway switch inside the camper. My old Alpenlite hides them away pretty good. The old Dexter electrics, which were the big 12.25X3.375 Neverlubes, simply did not stop the heavy 16000 lbs trailer and were malfunctioning on a fairly regular basis (and always at remarkably inconvenient times). I am very glad to see them go. I never thought I'd see the day when I could actually lock up my brakes with the controller, but I can and had to turn the gain way down. The big camper stops now like I was pulling my old 10000 lbs Jayco. I guess I'm a happy camper.

Good eye guys!!!

This pic was sent to me while the RV was on the DRV production line by Alicia at Rolling Retreats. I asked her when the RV arrived to them to adjust the brake lines so they did not have that sharp brake line bend when the suspension was hanging down.

It looks like the brake line is the limiting strap! Not good.

Yes they put all other suspensions to shame. That is why I am not too concerned to be 750# over on each axle.

Is is just me, or does the top of that left brake line look a little tight ?

I was just going to point that out. Maybe they should consider putting a limiting strap on the suspension.

I just made the switch the end of last year... I too used the Titan complete package. There is no comparison between the 2... Now I have an appointment the second week of June out at MORRyde to have my IS installed...

Very nice, they look industrial. What you don't see up in there is the shock absorber on each axle. I rolled around on the rocks under the Carriage for a good 5 minutes trying to figure out what it was I was looking at 🙂

Thanks for the write up, I've been teetering on the brink of getting disc brakes for a long time and you may have just pushed me over the edge.

isn"t it funny how well they stop, but yet the trailer makers still continue to use the same old technology that Henry Ford had on his model A ?

Well, not all of them. That's why I try to persuade prospective buyers to look past all the decorative "foo-foo" and look at what the Brits call the "oily bits" - the underlying mechanicals that the manufacturer selected. The chances for problems are much lower when the manufacturer uses quality parts (well, at least for the RVing world) such as Goodyear G114 17.5" tires, Kodiak disc brakes, MorRyde independent suspension systems, Progressive Dynamics PD9280 power converters, Progressive Industries power monitoring systems, Samsung TVs, etc. rather than the cheapest stuff available based on the premise that most buyers aren't going to care about anything but how nice the interior furnishings look.
