Hi all! My wife and I are looking to buy a trailer for both campgrounds in the summer as well as traveling to NASCAR races. Currently it is just the 2 of us and our dog but we would like something that could fit friends or family also. I have a 2010 rear wheel drive V8 Dodge Ram pickup that we would tow with. But enough about me! My question is what should we get as first time users?? I like the Fifth Wheels but would a travel trailer be easier for us? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks all!

I agree with Dick B. Go rent a Class C for one of the races and again for a campground stay. Talk to LOTS of people at each place. Also, try to visit an RV show to see many more choices and end up totally confused.

No hemi. When I bought the truck I didnt plan on towing a trailer! Thanks for all the great info though! And FOREVER 'Dega is definitely on our list. So far we've hit Charlotte, Dover, and Pocono. Dover and Pocono are only 2 hours from us in either direction so they have only been day trips but I'd sure love to enjoy the infield atmosphere!

Totally unrelated, but as close as you are to Martinsville, I'd go for either the spring or fall race there before Talledega. I live 35 minutes from Daytona, have been to the 500, 400, & Duels, and a Martinsville weekend was the best time I ever had at a NASCAR event. Plate racin' just isn't racin' IMHO.

With the 1500 I would suggest that you stick with a travel trailer. Pulled a 25' Coachman Bunkhouse with a Ford F150 years ago with no problems. Since deciding to move up to a 5vr I stick with the F350 since we now lean toward larger size as you can see by our signature. Many nice TT's out there with slides but not sure what the extra weight would do. JMHO! Sure would like to join you at the NASCAR races but my dialysis keeps me on a short leash. We used to go to Talledega both races every year. Stayed at the General Lee Campground and got to the track early to get into the handicap parking area. We had a portable cook stove so had breakfast there with a lot on "new friends" :W After the race we chilled in the parking lot cooking up some burgers and dogs and a few cold ones until the crowd dissipated and went back to the campground. Sure do miss those days. Good luck to you and happy RV'ing whichever route you decide to go.

Then get a travel trailer with a GVWR around 7000 pounds and go camping. That is assuming you have the hemi and not the puny base motor?

If you have never RV'd try renting a few times. If it turns out you don't like the lifestyle you will have saved thousands...
While you are at a campground talk to owners who will gladly tell you all about their rigs and how wonderful they are.
Especially pay attention to the complaints...

1500. Could trade it in if need be, but was hoping to use the payments for the trailer instead of a new truck

Since Ram trucks come in Five flavors, what are your trucks specs? 1500 or 5500?
