First Trip

Just made our first trip with the new 5'er and new truck.

Boondocked for 4 days at an annual Cowboy Action Shooting event. Great people and great friends.

Trailer did great except for the problem with the electronic control panel. Keystone now has a second generation panel available and my dealer has one ordered to install. Hopefully, this will correct these problems. Everything else worked like it's supposed to. Towed great. Water pump, frig, stove, heater, all worked as required. So much room with the opposing slides, seems like a home. Had a couple of guys ask if I was going to sell my home and live in the RV.;) Had already swapped out the no-name Chinese tires that came on the trailer for Maxxis M8008 10 ply rating tires so hopefully, will have as good a luck with them as I've had with the same tire on several previous trailers.

Truck was fantastic. Except for a decrease in fuel mileage, you wouldn't know the trailer was back there. Tow haul mode and engine braking were incredibly efficient. Averaged 10.5 mpg towing. That was better than any of the guys I talked with towing with gas motors and for the first time in 7 years, diesel is actually cheaper than gasoline.

We'll make one or two more short trips to check everything out further but are really looking forward to our family vacation to the Canon City area in Colorado in mid June. Think this truck and trailer combination is going to make for a great trip.

Just curious why did you buy a 450? Are you planning on a MUCH LARGER RV?

The big question is "why not?"

When ordering, I priced up a 350 and a 450. When I added the options and packages I wanted to each truck, there was only about $3000.00 difference between the two. When you're looking at $67,000 msrp for a new truck, what's another $3000.00? For that additional money, I gained 2500# in 5th wheel / goose-neck towing capacity. And while I don't anticipate a bigger RV in my future, if I did want to go bigger, I don't have to lose my butt on the truck trading it in for something to tow a bigger trailer. I know what I have will tow anything I would ever need it to tow.

Throw in that I defy any 350 truck to ride better, turn shorter or out-perform this truck, and there's just no reason to not go with the 450.
