Front living room

The wife and I were looking at the new 5th wheels at an RV show the other day and really liked a couple we saw with the living room in the front. We are thinking of upgrading from our TT and going full time and this floor plan was particularly inviting. Impressions and various makes and models would be appreciated.

We currently have a Sandpiper 366FL but will ne ordering a Sandpiper 360 PEK. The issues we have with the FL are very limited front basement storage, you do not sit across from tv, must turn sideways to watch and small windows to look out.
I prefer the open feel of the rear living room models with big windows and tall ceilings. Good luck and happy camping.

We just picked up our Montana 3750FL last month and have camped in it twice. We plan on fulltiming with it. You know it's good when DW says she can see herself living in it the rest of her life.

The living room ceiling is plenty high, but not so high you have to get a ladder to adjust the AC vents. It got cool one night so we turned on the fireplace and closed off the living room and had to open windows it got so hot. I haven't figured out how to adjust it yet. I don't have the washer hook up directly over the kingpin so no added pin weight. DW and I cooked dinner one night and never bumped into each other. So plenty of room there. Big window at the back, so I can wake up to whatever scene I back up to. Really love the full width bathroom with the second door. DW has decided to turn that into a mud room when the dogs have been out.

Basically, it's lots of space, more inside storage than we know what to do with. Ok, so the basement isn't very big, but I honestly don't know what I will put in there besides tools and my grill. Overall, we love it.

I think if you go FT'ing you'll fill that basement up quick. When we stay at a some of the nicer RV parks, we seem to be in between some big DP motorhomes. Inventively the MH owner is out digging around in their basement storage. Most every time those compartments are full of all the stuff you need for the RV but keep at home cause your not full timing.

A thought that we had when we were looking at them is the amount of times we move between the kitchen and living area in the run of a day, not sure if we would want to be climbing stairs every time.

When we have a larger group in the trailer, guests can be sitting at the kitchen table and still be a part of the living room group. No physical separation (stairs and railing). And as we get older, stairs may become more "challenging".

I have a Montana, but not front living. But frequenting the Montana owners web site I know there are many owners of Montana front living plans that love them.

I've looked at FL models, but would miss having windows on three sides as in our living room.

JMO but if I ever get a FL 5'er it would have to have the seating directly across from the tv. I couldn't see dropping big $$$$$ for a FL and have to turn my head to watch tv. That would be my 1st need. 2nd would be that the kitchen area be useable. Good entry and adequate dinette area.
#1 choice would be a Grand Design Solitude 379FL

One of the pluses to a 5er is the tall Living Room ceiling, with Fan. With the forward Living room you have limited head room, as every inch adds to the overall height on the rig.

You also loose the 8' wide closet found across the front of all but the smaller "Lite" 5er's
