Front Living Rooms... yea or nay?

We are REALLY close to purchasing a Montana 3850FL.

We had a bunkhouse for the past nine years and this Montana seems to be a good transition for us. The teenage kids would use the opposing pullout couches as beds and we would not be stuck with a true bunkhouse when they no longer camp with us. I especially like how this particular model's front living room is more closed off to further give them a sense of their own room.

So if you have or have had a front living room fifth wheel, would you give me your thoughts, please?

We saw a Rushmore at a show a couple of weeks ago with the front living room and window, but it looked like a rock had hit the window as it was damaged, I do miss the front windows in all of the campers but at least the old ones had rock guards. That was the 1st one we saw that was ever damaged.

Our very first fifth-wheel was a used Prowler Regal that was front living room and also had a window all across the front. I really liked that feature. It had a cover which closed for travel and then raised (with struts) when set up. It had no slides, of course. It was the front living room which attracted me to the whole idea of a fifth-wheel. We bought this one from friends. We have had three fifth-wheels since then--all bought new and each from a different manufacturer.

I've continued to be fascinated with front living room models, but they had all become longer and heavier than we desire. This Rushmore is the first I have seen since that Prowler with a front window. I like everything about it except the weights and length. I do realize that with the modern floor plans it is hard to get a front living room in less space and weight. Just dreaming.

We purchased the front living 2014 rushmore lincoln last year. We really like this unit. Our unit does have steps to the living and to the bedroom giving storage under living and bedroom. They have just actually changed the floor plan and removed the steps to the bedroom but now there is no storage under bedroom. I traded a cedar creek for this unit. We really liked the cedar creek but like the rushmore lincoln more. There is 2 sofa's in the living room. One sofa faces the tv and fireplace. This unit actually has a front windshield to look out. Again, everyone has their favorite RV and this unit meets everything we were looking for. picture

While I am always afraid of leaks with front windows. That Front glass looks really cool. Never seen anything quite like it in a fiver

Well for me it was also a question of the additional weight on the truckbed the FL units are substantially front heavy and I love my 3/4 ton I do have airbag suspension, but do not need or want to drive a dually all the time! For our 40 footer at 14 K lbs we're safe and secure with the ratio of over wheel weight and overall haul cap. I have now put right at 31K miles on this combination "RIG" substantially more on the truck as a daily driver. Plus as another mentioned we love the wrap around rear view of the front bedroom!

Another issue that some seem to have with FLs is that with the low ceiling in that area, it's harder to keep it cool when it's really Hot outside.
We too have looked at them, but prefer our RL and large rear window.

I like the "feel" of the FLs; but will probably still go with the RL in case we score the pretty back-in site? I'm seldom looking outdoors when I'm in the bedroom.....

Just gotta add that for nine years the kids got the views out the back, since that's where the bunk room was located. It's our turn to wake up to the beautiful views out the back. Although at Disneys Fort Wilderness the "view" was often of the campground road and all the busses, golf carts, bikes and pedestrians, lol!

We had a 35ft Jayco Front Living room. The wife loved it and picked it out. It was a good rig and nice floorplan. Looking at the new ones I'm seeing double couches instead of a couch and two chairs, something we look for in an rv.

Yes, we would buy another front living room fifth wheel.

I like the front living rooms and will certainly look at them closer when my bunkhouse days are over. I am a bit concerned by the lack of basement storage which is critical for me.

Some of the FL's would have been OK for us, specifically the open range. Most of the other brands, one has to walk right through the bathroom to access the bedroom. We thought that was poor planning. But again, we went for the RL because of the the better viewing windows.

Floor plan is so important. If you like it then get it.

Personally I think the front living rooms are pretty nice. Little different for sure.

That said, I personally like the added ceiling height in the living room of say the traditional layouts more. Not that I wouldn't buy a front living room, just that unless there was something else about the FP I had to have I'd rather the master bedroom be up there.

I love visiting people with FL's they are cool but to own one and fulltime in one No not for us, like others have said we would never want to give up the view out the back window as opposed to front living where your scenery is looking out to the parking lot or cars passing by , but to each their own

I love the front living rooms but the models that do have have from living rooms just do not seem to have a lot of closet space in the bedroom. The bedrooms don't seem as roomy to me.
