Fuel cost to drive to Florida.

I'm looking for some feedback on what your fuel costs were to drive from southern Ontario (or even the Buffalo area) to the Tampa area of Florida.

Yes, I realize there are plenty of variables here. Tow vehicle, trailer size, mileage your vehicle gets, price of gas. But I am going crazy with litres, gals, US gals, KMS and miles. So if I could get a couple of ballpark figures ($500 -$800 $1000) just to give me somewhere to start.

I have a 3/4ton HD GMC 8cyl. pulling a 27 foot Cougar 5er. If someone has something similar that would help too.

Thanks.

Nope they are staying home by the hundreds and going to places in Canada as warm as possible.Try booking places in British Columbia,or Vancouver Island. The charters and snow bird trips to Spain and Portugal, even Cuba remain hot spots. It is all about the dollar and medical insurance costs.Mexico is still popular for rving but less so then other years. Many rv units are sitting home and not being used for the winter holidays. In our case age,and health has determined our winter.Vancouver Island rental on the sea shore golfing and fishing.

Simple thing to do is to just load up the RV and head south. It is going to cost you what it does.

Take miles/gallon x 0.41626 to get kilometers/liter

or kilometer/Liter x 2.4023 to get miles/gallon

I am not sure of the exchange rate, but you can look that up online.

If you get about 8 miles/gallon and figure gasoline will run about $2.25 US/gallon, 1250 miles, it will be $350 US one way.

I usually plan on about $500-600 for the one way trip (Barrie area to Orlando area). MH gets about 7-9 or 8-10 mpg (US or Canadian gallon). So many variables but the price of gasoline south of the border, more than makes up for the difference in the dollar. An example is home to Toledo, fillup was about $100 US, $130can at todays exchange) on the return, fillup in Toledo and then fill up at home the cost was $220 Canadian.
I'm glad the MH has the speedo/odometer in MILES, so no extra calculations, I still think in miles, no kilometres.

The past 2 trips from SW Michigan to Crystal River, FL (about 80 miles north of Tampa along the Gulf) we travel about 1,210 miles. In 2014 our diesel fuel cost us #492.00 one way. In early 2015 our cost was $396, a $96 savings or -19.5%!!!

Fuel costs were down last winter and so far they're still down this fall and hopefully winter.

Thanks for all the quick feedback. I have worked it out several times. I just wanted to hear someone actually tell me what they spent. It's like the difference between theory and practicality.

It cost me about $460 USD to drive from North Bay Ontario to Tampa, FL in mid October. I averaged 9.2 mpg.

Use MapQuest.
You can get your route and it will calculate fuel based on what you input for MPG.
I have a 2500 6.0 and towing a 28'er I get about 10mpg.

Snowman is right. Take whatever your currently getting for mpg's and divide the distance by the mpg. Get gallons and multiply by "X"/gallon and there ya go.

Sake of argument: 1300 miles. Truck gets/ave 10 mpg. 1300/10 = 130 x $2.50= $325.00 ONE WAY. To concur w/ Snowman again, figure 350 on the high side to give yourself some wiggle room (add more if necessary).

So the math is not that simple, as the OP lives north of the Border. Liters and Imperial gallons, and kilometers.

There are 3.875 liters to a US gallon and a mile is 1.613 kilometers.
