Fuel station pump noises

First off I run the generator once a month under load, year round also the fuel station just open fill cap and stick nossle back in there and run it for a few minutes also I use nothing but non ethynol fuel. If your blowing fuses most likely your impellers have swollen and jammed against the outer plate. Pull out the motor and take out the four screws, then pull the plastic impellers if your have a belt sander sit down put it upside down between your leggs turn it on using 1000 grade sand paper hold the gear flat against the sand paper for 2-3 seconds at a time do this 2-3 times make sure you hold it flat that will be enough to take the swelling out of the gear put the plate back on, making sure the gasket is in the groove properly cause its a hair bigger than the gasket track tighten the four bolts and run the pump, if you still get nothing or just s little repeat process until its running smooth don't remount motor till its working that part is a pain in the a$$ and change your fuel this will also save the carbs and prevent future issues

most rv parts stores carry the. When stored the gears dry out and will fail. I run mine into the fill for the tank to keep it lubed about once a month. I had to replace the gears in mine once. You can sand the sides of the gears and reuse them. I have my old ones in the hauler for spares if needed. They cosy from $35.99 to $39.99 depending on where you buy them.

I understand that the issue with the gears was resolved in 2005 and supposedly all the pumps after that date are equipped with updated gears. But there are those who are still using the older style gears and can run across the problem with those gears swelling and locking up due to the new fuels.

Well, just talked to the guy at gpi pumps about this. I was concerned with the bypass circuit causing more strain on the pump. He said no problem, pump has a 15 min max run time, just don't go over that.
Running pump with nozzle closed in bypass mode will not hurt anything for a short amount of time(15min max).

Reason I called them was my swivel connection at the nozzle hose connection leaks bad when it hasn't been used for a month or so.
After using it 1 time and having it leak all over the place, seems next time its used with in a few hours, it doesn't leak a drop. And if used again within a few weeks, doesn't leak a drop. Wait a month or 2, and leaks all over again.

So I thought the o-ring at the swivel was getting dried up in storage and leaked till it got 'wet again' and swelled up. The guy at GPI sent me a o-ring rebuild kit for the nozzle, and a new set of upgraded material gears, just in case my gears swelled up. The pump hasn't needed any gears yet and has worked flawlessly for me for years. But a set of new gears in my TH tool box can't be a bad thing...

The customer service guy/technician/engineer? Brian, I talked to at GPI was great.He had been to Glamis before working on the pumps when WW switch from Graco to GPI because of the problems with the fuel pumps. He knew exactly what my problem was and sent everything out quick.
Don't want to start a run at GPI, but the customer service and price was more than right. Class act operation at GPI...

we have a few of those 12 volt pumps (toyhauler / gas caddie / service tanks at the farm) everyone of them does the same deal (sound like they are straining when hose isn't dispensing fuel)

I had to look up the company name on the pump and it seems Graco bought them out in 2005. The Graco website will tell you where the suppliers are located. It just happen that one was not far from me but I'm sure whomever you call will be able to send you the parts. In saying that, if you simply Google the pump FP12 and gears, you'll find its a common problem and that you may need two different kits. One with the gears and possibly one with the seal. Lots of threads out there regarding this too so you should be able to find all the info you need and parts numbers. I didnt write anything down but just relayed to the supplier what I was looking for and the part numbers on the threads.

Katoom, where did you get the gears? The pump on my Raptor quit on me the last trip out and I need to fix this. It was a known issue but I've had it 8 years and it's finally done.

the carter pump on our T H was locked up when i got it. took apart and got freed up. just wouldn't work right so bought a new pump and moved on.

would guess new pump has the newer proper veins. if i have trouble will check that out.

Just thought I'd update the thread. The other day my fuel pump station fuse popped and it seemed the pump was dragging a little more than "normal". Then it started to drag even more to the point of not wanting to pump without popping the fuse so I did some research and found that the factory gears in this pump are prone to swelling due to the newer fuels we use today as apposed to the fuels used 10 years ago. So I just purchased the updated gears which wont swell. I'll see how it sounds then.
