FURNITURE

I notice furniture in fivers look bulky and doors look small.
Do you have to remove a slide-out to replace furniture?
  • most of the time furniture breaks apart so that it fits throu door ( but sometime not )
  • I have a couple of humongous recliners that take up most of the room in my parlor portion of my rig...the backs of these chairs do come apart so that they can be removed through the door.

Down the road I may replace them with a Euro type chairs.

  • All the OEM furniture in our fifth wheel breaks down for removal. One of the first things we did when we moved in was to replace the sleeper sofa with an Ekornes Stressless recliner and the sofa broke down into three parts that easily made it through the door. Our reclining theater seats (two-person) have also been replaced under warranty due to an upholstery issue. The backs come off and the base unit fits through the door without a problem. Even our new queen size mattress (full 60 x 80) wasn't a problem.

  • We replaced the sleeper sofa and theater seats in our Mobile Suites with recliners, an electric recliner sofa and end cabinets from Lambright Comfort Chairs, a specialty manufacturer in the Shipshewana, Indiana area. The existing Lane furniture went out the front door after some quick disassembly, and the new furniture came in the door easily since the sofa was manufactured in 3 sections that fit together once inside the RV to become one unit. The guys at Lambright are expert in changing out furniture and had the swapover completed within 30 minutes.

We also removed and replaced the OEM RV King size mattress (72"x80") through the front door when we took delivery of the RV.

  • As stated above, look for furniture that comes apart and each piece will fit through the door, then assemble the furniture inside the camper. We replaced the 2 original rocker chairs, the stand-alone kitchen table and 4 chairs for a household 3 seater recliner sofa. The main body of the couch "just" fit the door. Before purchasing, I measured the couch several times, and even had the furniture store remove the backs and I measured and remeasured everything. All 3 backs fit through the door with no problem, and after it was inside, I added 6 wheels under the frame so it could be moved easily inside the camper. The thing to look for is furniture that fits together in pieces or sections and then assembled inside.

And with wheels, we can move it facing the back window and television. This works absolutely wonderful for us:

  • Yes you would be surprised what fits through that door. Let me tell you, the antique furniture that fits through that door for the ride home on our bed. It would be an easier list to say what didn't fit. WE even have a 3 person porch glider that came home from door county Wi, that fit through that door. That was fun though we had bought the glider while on vacation and brought the glider back to our campsite and just set it down under the awning and used it. We certainly got a few looks like how did you guys get that here? When it was time to go home we took it apart and in the door it went for the ride home.
