Wrong, it would run or at least try to with starter fluid. The old story, if you have gas, spark and compression it MUST run. Try the starting fluid again with the air cleaner removed, just a short squirt and open the butterfly manually, see if it fire. If it fires I'd suspect carburetor issues. If it doesn't then I'm at a loss without being there.
I did the starter fluid without the air cleaner on. I cant get a good look into the carb because of how its in there. looking at owners manuel it says to check the #14 wire. i traced it as best i could to a temperature control switch. it says this has a normally open contacts. The contacts close if the temp gets above 284 could this be the issue stuck in the close position. if it gets to approximatly 284 deg. it initiating an engine shutdown.
