Good installer for Disc Brakes ?

GoPackGo

I'm considering switching from drums to disc brakes on my 2013 Bighorn. I full time so I can get it done anywhere, but would prefer Florida because I spend winters there. But I have absolutely no problem driving somewhere else to get to a GOOD installer. I'm all over the country for 6 months during the summer anyway - a little side excursion is no big deal.

Would appreciate some leads about reputable places to have it done and also costs involved.

Also, which brands should I look at ? How long do they last ?

Thanks.

Nice. I decided I'm going to be ordering from him and doing a DIY install. Just need to run down to the storage lot and find if I have 1/2" or 9/16" studs and then I'll get them ordered.

I did my own install a few weeks ago, pump and discs from Southwest Wheel. I used hard steel lines, mostly from etrailer but some from local auto supply. etrailer sells a 66 inch line to match the I-beam spacing for the crossover line. Bleeding the brakes is an ez one person job. With a switch, 20 ft of wire and alligator clips you can remotely control the pump.

You will not be disappointed !!

As far as a DIY job , as long as you have the basic skills and knowledge , along with a decent driveway or area to do it , you will be fine... the job is straight forward , I did not do mine , but I also had several reasons , medical and time that did not allow me to do so..
Fire up YouTube . . . There are a ton of install videos on there , watch one or 2... Keep the iPad/laptop close while doing the job for reference . .

I've always worked on my own cars including a fair amount of brake work on some of my go fast projects in the past. I figured putting them on a trailer can't be too different. Will definitely check out some Youtube videos and such beforehand. From all I've read on these forums about the disc upgrades I'm excited to see the difference.

No, Titan makes calipers and rotors as well. ***Link Removed***

We're looking at the Titan Premier 13" and the Kodiak 13" E-Coats.

Edit: apparently I'm not allowed to post links, but you can search for TT12015_BrakeCatalog_F_Reduced.pdf to see what Titan offers.

The Titan and Kodiak parts are completely interchangeable... ,, The Titan PUMP is supposed to be the fastest reacting , with no lag... I went with the Titan kit because of Ron and thier installation... They make it easy..

I just had the MORRyde IS installed , while driving back from Indiana , I developed a lot of brake dust and heat on 1 wheel.... Ron sent his installers to my house in PA , turns out I needed a spacer on the IS ... MorRyde should have seen this...

I'm about to order these for my 2015 Alpine and am just trying to decide between Titan and Kodiak brakes. Any input on them?

I would also recommend Performance Trailer Braking. I had them install Titan disc brakes on our Lifestyle. The difference between the discs and the old drums is like night and day. It's the best upgrade you can do for your 5th wheel.

They came to us at our park in Tucson and were done in one day. Our truck now brakes as well towing our 5er as it does empty and we're over 28K lbs combined.

Who ever you have do it, DO IT!

Happy trails,
Bill

Here is the website for performance trailer braking.

Performance Trailer Braking

We have emailed with them and we are also going to be in Florida this winter and quite possibly having him or one of his installers come to our site to get the disc brakes installed. I believe it's going to be around $2800 for the upgraded brake kit including install. Best advice is contact them by their website and ask about locations and prices.

Members on the Heartland owners forum love their disc brakes and say they would not get another fiver without them. Repeatedly see them saying great stopping and better piece of mind knowin it will also help with brakes on their truck's eliminating over heating and brake fade.

So to clarify. Where is his main shop ? Or is it strictly a situation where he comes to you.

Can I ask you about cost ?

I would highly recommend Performance Trailer Braking, and the Titan system Ron Russell is the owner and he is a camper... Here is a post that he wrote for another ---

Leon,

There are several possibilities. I am with Performance Trailer Braking and install 100+ of the Titan System a year. Call me at 405-626-7009 if you still have a problem."

He did mine , and I love them... He and his installers travel around the country
