I need to replace my stock Duro's "E" rated next year. Tread & sidewalls are still very good but they're hitting close to 6 yrs old and I almost always have to add 10-15lbs of air everytime we want to go camping. I have a big trip planned next year and I want tires to be the least of my worries. I did some research months ago and concluded on going with G614 but dreading the cost. That is until I hit this thread. Wow, lots of great info in here! I have 7000lb axles but I also don't load up to capacity or even near my weight capacity limit. I'm not a full-timer or anything remotely close; long time before I can retire. So, I was debating if "G" rated were more about handling max capacity, peace of mind, combination of both or something else I'm missing? I also want (like to have) tires that are rated above 65mph just for that extra margin of safety. I hope the positive Sailun reviews continue.
I'd NEVER "cut corners" when it comes to purchasing tires on my 5er. Unless you've weighed your 5er loaded, how do you know what you're towing at? At 6 yrs of age and you stating you have to add 10-15# every time you go camping should raise some flags. Your 5er is one of the heavy one's.
All it takes is one blow out, possible damage to your 5er and setting on the side of the road having to replace a tire....been there, done that, don't want to EVER do it again.
You can't put a price on "Peace of mind"....I'd be scared of your tires and seeing as how you're running 7,000# axles "IF" the less pricier Saliun tires won't fit, I'd go with the GY G 614's...G rated tires are what they are, handling towing speed, handling the weight of the 5er and the right tool to use for the job.....
We aren't full timers either, but I won't crimp when it comes to purchasing tires for my 5er...My time is more valuable to me than working on and fixing an issue due to a tire failure. Some times you have to spend a little more money to do the right thing for you and your family...again, it's hard to put a price on peace of mind or being broke down on the side of the road.....
X2...
We just purchased a new 5th that came with substandard tires and new tires will be purchased in the Spring when we start camping again.
