Have you ever measured your waste tanks. Our trailer only has 42G of fresh water, yet has two 42G grey and a 42G black tank. When we run off tanks only, the 42G of fresh can fill all the other tanks to 2/3 full. That doesn't make sense. I know gauges aren't accurate. But my curiosity got the best of me. So I measured all three holding tanks. I filled them all with a graduated bucket, till they backed up to where I was filling them. They are all about 36 gallons, and actually, that includes the plumbing leading to them. So I have been shorted what I've paid for by about 20G or more. To my thinking, that is false advertising.I'm going to write them, but I know they won't do anything. Have any others noticed this on your trailer?Mark

If you are going by the gauges as 2/3 full, take into consideration that those level gauges are far from accurate. The only way to truly tell the tank capacity is to fill with measured gallons via buckets down a drain/toilet.Sorry didn't read it through.

What would you want the manufacturer to do?I really doubt they will change the tanks.Could it be a safety thing, having the actual capacity less than the advertised capacity?

Have you measured your tanks? Bet this is a lot more common than people think because it can be due to installation. If the guy installing the vent pipe puts it too far into the tank, there goes some of its capacity. Put it half way into the tank and half of its capacity will be unusable.

I don't understand what people's problem is? If their truck was advertised with a 40 gallon fuel tank, but would actually only h0ld 36, they'd be really pissed. I'd be pissed in this situation, with 10% less capacity than advertised in all my tanks. I'd be even more pissed at the way the OP seems to have been treated by his dealer as well as the manufacturer. Just sayin'...

We have actually got more fresh water capasety than black, but then we also bath and was up dishes.

I am very surprised that regardless of the fresh water tank capacity no one has considered the extra space in the black tank all the Beer takes up after it has passed through your body ?

The whole point is that the =spec= states one thing, but the OP's experience, including measuring the tanks, shows that they're significantly smaller.

Do you not have a spec sheet in your brochure or on line for your rig? Why would you need to go to trouble measure them when you can look it up. Where does any manufacturer ever claim that the fresh tank equals the sum of the gray and black capacities? I looked at my specs BEFORE I bought my TT and the fresh is 41 and each of the black and grey are 30. They aren't expected to add up...I happen to use city water connection all the time so doesn't matter but they are sized to what fits under your frame and weight balance and distribution.

Just a thought, both the black and the grey tanks should be vented to allow them to displace the air and fill with liquids. If the vent tube has been extended down into the tank, its end would soon be covered by liquid and trap air inside the tank, thus preventing the tank to fill to the top. Yes the liquid would push up the vent, but at some point that would stop, and the tanks would be "full"! Somebody tell me where this theory holds no water!!

You'd be surprised how little swelling it would take to gain that 6 gallons, from 36 to 42. Either way, it's still B.S., and it's B.S. the way Palomino treated you. I'd be =real= tempted to call your state's AG and file a false-advertising claim. Let the =State= file the lawsuit; I guarantee that it will get their attention a whole lot faster than you would.
