Helping a friend (UPDATE with a pic)

Have a friend who needs my help. His truck broke down and needs his 5er towed home next weekend. It is about a 75 mile tow.
Here is my delima. His trailer is about 14,000 lbs. He pulls it with a Dodge dually. I have a F350 CC SRW. I know that my truck will pull it but I am pretty sure I will be over my ratings. By how much I am not sure.
So....would you do this? Its only a one time deal. I know he would help me if I were in need. Thanks, John

Way to be there for your friend. Bet your real confident in that trailer weight rating now. 🙂

Thanks!

Looks good, 5er is just a shade nose high, the TV looks fine.

Well guys, pulled my friends 5er back to his house today. It went great. His 5er is over 4000 lbs heavier than ours which I could tell. His 5er also put my truck down on the over loads but it didn't squat all that bad. I don't know why but it towed so much easier than out 5er. Thanks for all the comments and encouragement. Thanks, John

I have a pic I took just before backing the 5er in his drive.

As long as your truck doesn't sit on the stops (suspension bottomed out) you should be OK, just don't get in a hurry.

I would do it in a heartbeat.

You will prolly squat quite a bit but nothing to be unsafe I wouldnt think.Youll know when you hook up.

I am catching on now John. Lots of stuff in the area front of the axles.

Apparently you don't have air bags.

I think the best approach is to let that baby down on your truck and see how it looks as far as the rear suspension and the tires sagging.

I am betting you will be good to go for the short haul.

it would be interesting if you can grab a pic of that beast hooked up to the ole 7.3.

Will be looking forward to your trip report

Too bad you are not a little closer, I would offer to bail you out with the 2f50 6.2 gasser. :W

Looking forward to your post back.

Thanks Dave,
I think the issue for me is my 5er weighs 9600 and my freind says his weighs 14000!! I know my truck will pull it I just hope it doesn't bottom out my truck! My friends 5 er is equipped with one of those sliding trays in the basement compartment. He has just about any tool or part to fix a trailer with!!! I am just a little concerned about the pin weight.
I bet you could bail me out with that 6.2L!! Maybe another time my friend!
Thanks, John

Thanks for all the replies guys!!! Just confirms my own thoughts. I will post back when I get it done. He was towing his 5er when his truck broke down. He has a 6 speed manual transmission, and that is what he thinks went out. He said when the tow truck came out to pick up his truck that the back wheels were locked!
On the bright side, this will make for some awesome campfire conversation about how the ol' Ford had to come rescue the ol' Dodge!!! (Just saying) LOL

Yes, help your friend. Check everything out just like you were towing your own rig. Safe travels.
