How long can a 5th wheel sit in one spot without hurting the tires? Our neighbor asked us this last night because he said that if his dad lets their boat sit for too long in one spot, the tires get a flat spot in them from the weight. Anyone know...or does this even apply to 5th wheels?

Tires actually age faster when not in use. Rolling down the road keeps the chemicals moving around. Chris

I agree that usage does keep the tires in better condition. But ours does sit 6 months or more during the off season and no noticeable flat spots on the tires. Pull out for the fitst time after sitting and there is no bounce of vibration.

The old Nylon ply tires were the worst for flat spotting. Chris

Modern tires, years. Ya they will thump when you start moving, but the tire will warm up and the flat spot vanish

That is where the term came from! Thump, Thump down the road for a distance!

Look to those in the NE that store their trailers for any where from 6 months to nine months. I keep my tires covered when sitting, even when on the road camping.

Same here. My fiver will sit for 6 months on various surfaces. No problem. They.re being replaced now due to age (around 7 yrs old).

Our fiver sits from late October until April. No issues. Air up to the recommended pressure and put covers on.

My TT has sat for 6 to 7 months out of every year and never suffered any tire issues.

When I park for the winter, I increase my 80 PSI tires to 83/84 PSI....which helps, and as we know, the tire air pressure will go down with the cold temps.

Try and take your 5th wheel out each month for 50-100 miles to keep the oil in the surface of the tires. If you park on cement, use placemats between the tire and cement to reduce deteriation of the tire.

tire storage.
