I have the front bedroom on my toy hauler and the generator is built into the camper and sits under the front bed. What have you guys done to quiet the generator noise? I thought about insulating around the generator compartment but wanted to see if there are better options. Thanks

Number one: Get a quieter generator.Number two: spend a lot of money and time trying to get your current unit quieter.First realize you can NOT in any way, impair the air flow around, across and through the generator. Doing so could have an adverse impact on it's life.You can use a sound insulation material around the box, this will reduce the sound transmitted by the generator directing into the frame of the. But (SWAG) the best this will do is reduce noise by 3dB (or half the energy of the noise NOT half as loud).You can also look at an improved muffler to reduce the noise, but as with air flow, care here is required.Personally (I worked in sound/noise/etc for many years) I would get a quieter generator.

HI,I am guessing that the Mesa location means that you need to run the A/C at night? That is sad. . If it was just to recharge the batteries, then solar panels will work great, but they do not make enough power to run the A/C overnight. A Honda RV generator that is water cooled might help out a lot. But it is expensive, and you can sell the Onan for about $1,000 - $2,000?The mechanic at my work had a 200 - 300 amp 12 volt charger that ran on a Bring and Stratton lawnmower size engine. He put on a muffler that should be mounted on a riding lawn mower, and it got really quiet! Look at putting some DynaMat Xtreme in the cabinet where the generator is. Don't block off any holes or vents, but cover the entire inside. I used that stuff on my old Corvette and now I have a 69 big block Corvette that has NO RATTLES, and is quiet inside. The DynaMat Xtreme works like a charm. NOw, I'm pretty sure that somebody will see this and tell you to go to Home Depot ot Lowe's and buy the thin insulation that has bubble wrap between 2 sheets of aluminized coating. Go ahead and get it, then install it. You'll be taking it out and doing something different, be cause it doesn't work. Ask me how I know...

I am going to agree with the 2 honda 2000 geni's. Once you quite it down the vibration will drive you crazy and you will end up getting the two geni's anyway. I have 1 honda 2000 with an external 6 gal fuel tank. I start it when I get to our camp site and it runes the whole weekend. I don't run any of my three AC's

Others here have had success with placing egg-crate foam on the ground below their open to the ground generator compartment to help absorb and reduce the noise.

Try going to Lowes or Home depot and get some acoustical ceiling tiles. they are only a few dollars and are designed to block noise. Cut and fit them on the inside walls of the generator compartment and see if the noise is any better. This is not permanent just a cheap way to see if any sound deadener will help. a lot of your noise is transferred through vibration being mounted to your frame.
