We use mothballs wrapped in dryer sheets. Lots of them. 5 months, no visiting. Indoor srorage. Never had a critter problem. There are cats on the premises also.
Some years back we had mice in our 5er and put mothballs everywhere you could put them wrapped in dryer sheets.....never worked for us, maybe it has to do with where one camps. Used traps to rid 5er of them, then went with outside traps, (again, depends on where you camp), and the peppermint oil and cab fresh packets.....again, no mice in 5er for well going on 2 years now using what we do now....Have also used steel wool shoved into holes and crevices and covered over with the foam,,,so far that has added to keeping the mice from getting in I guess...
