Just weighed...

Just got weighed and this is what I got. (With people and full fuel tank, fiver tanks empty except for 1/3 water.)

TV Only: steering 4740, drive 3260

Full rig: steering 4800, drive 6240, trailer 9520.

TV: steering GAWR 5500, drive GAWR 6010, GVWR 8800, GCWR 22000

Trailer: GTWR 1980, GCWR 9030

I'm concerned...

    You need a bigger TV and lose some weight in the 5er! :S

    Would love to see a picture, and how you deal with that heavy rear axle.



    #1. that 2012 has the same GVWR as my 2001!

    That said you are way, way over the TV GVWR at 11,040 on the TV. I thought I was way over at 10,000# on the TV. :B

    What is the Max load rating on the tire side wall if 265/70-17E they are rated at 3,195 X 2 + 6,390 putting you right at the edge of the tires.

    Your 5er weight is over its GVWR at 12,500#, your 5er has a GVWR of 12,220#. You are just shy of 24 percent pin weight.

    Your TV before hooking up weighs in at 8,000#, leaving only 800# of available payload before exceeding the GVWR.

    I weigh in at about 7,800#, and run right at 10,000# +/- with the 5er attached.

    GVWR corrected and yes, GTWR is correct. My 2012 4x4 Ram Laramie Longhorn w/6.7 Cummins HO (350HP/800T) has Load lifter 5000 bags w/30 psi when towing. Rides level, rear tires set for heavy load at 80 psi. Rear tires are as described above, **** it. Unfortunately I replaced 2 12v batteries with 4 6v batteries @76 lbs each. Seems I shouldn't have done that.

    OK, let me get this straight. You're 1980 lbs on the pin and the 9030 lbs on the axles, for a total of 11,010 total on the trailer, as loaded; correct? That puts you over your rear axle spec by 230 lbs; correct? Were it me, and the tires were in spec, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You =could= move 2 batteries (or even all 4) further to the rear somewhere, and cut that 300+ lbs off the pin, for starters.

    No the OP is 2,980# on the pin, 6,240 - 3,260 = 2,980# + 60# front 3,040#.
    So the 5er weighs 2,980 + 9,520 = 12,500#

    No the OP is 2,980# on the pin, 6,240 - 3,260 = 2,980# + 60# front 3,040#.
    So the 5er weighs 2,980 + 9,520 = 12,500#


    Plus the 60# on front...5rv weighs 12,560#

    Truck has a payload of 2170# (longbed) or 2030# (shortbed)
    Passengers Etc of 571# (front/rear axle weights minus base weights)
    So payload dropped to 1599#------5vr pin of 2980# is 1381# OVER Payload

    Truck has a GVWR of 9600# (vs the 8800#) but you are still 1440# OVER GVWR (11040-9600)

    Truck RAWR is 6010# (weighed 6240) so you are 230# OVER RAWR

    5vr GVWR is 12,220 (weighed 12,560) so you are 340# OVER 5vr GVWR


    1381# OVER Trucks Payload (Longbed--otherwise 1471# OVER if shortbed)
    1440# OVER Trucks GVWR
    230# OVER Trucks RAWR
    340# OVER 5rvs GVWR

    But hey.......you are 1440# UNDER GCWR (220000 minus 20560)
    And you are 150# UNDER Trucks Rear Tire MAX Load Ratings (6390 minus 6240)

    Should also check 5vrs Axle ratings (5200 or 6000) and 5vrs tire MAX Load ratings (you have 9520# on 5vr tires/axles)

    This all sounds so familiar. I had an '08 Chevy 2500HD DMax and if the dry pin weight was accurate from the factory, my 5er overloaded my GVWR by #100 just pulling it off the lot empty. Decided to go up to a 3500.

    On edit: OP, there are certainly a lot of people doing what you are doing ( It doesn't make it right) but I agree with the posters above that you at least need to be sure that you are not overloading your rear tires.

    Yes, OP, you should be concerned. Being over several truck weight ratings, and FW GVWR is not a good place to be. I would at least get FW within GVWR, get rid of some pin wt, removing some truck rear axle wt.

    Others are getting by in similar situations, only you can decide if you want to follow that lead. I would not.

    I wouldn't worry about any trucks GVWR. Hell 99 percent of trucks operating commercially do not use the trucks GVWR to determine axle/tire loads. Nor does our trucks have a sticker GCWR. Weak link/safety issues with a 2500 can be lower rated tires/wheels and no aux upper overload spring pack. Your bags take care of that issue

    As other say tires are a weak component along with the OEM wheel ratings. With a 6010 RAWR it does no good with a tire at 3195 and the wheel has a 3050 ? lb rating.
    The rear axle itself is the same AAM 11.5" used on the 3500 SRW and DRW trucks so its not the least bit stressed.

    If you like the batteries I would upgrade wheels and tires to a higher capacity. Some one will be along pretty quick and say just put 19.5" tires and wheels on your truck...which is a great upgrade. For more input on 19.5" 4000+ lb tires/wheels check out our truck camper forum where its a popular/safe upgrade for 250/2500 and one ton SRW/DRW truck owners who need more capacity.
