Kayak mounting

On top of the truck if you have a four door (crew cab style) or an extended cab.

I did a post on this earlier. Didn't take long to make and works well for me. Do those 5th wheels have receivers on the back?

X2. I use the Thule Roof rack and 2 sets of J hooks to carry our 2 10' kayaks.

While the OP stated he has a bike rack in the 5er reciver, this could work if they had a pin box reciver built for the bikes.

Better yet get a roof top carrier for the kayaks and have the pin box reciver built for the bikes. The pin box mount for the bike is a much better ride for them.

Can you provide more detail on the receiver and rack you have there? Pretty slick set up.

Keep one thing in mind if you go the "car top" route.....

If you are going in salt water, it is IMPERATIVE that you rinse your boat thoroughly. As someone who kayaks in Florida, I can personally testify that it will eat the roof of your car doing this. Rinsing will slow it down... somewhat.

On my old fishing truck ('96 Jeep Cherokee), I eventually ended up putting berliner on the roof. Worked well.

Front mount, Class III Hitch (mine is made by Curt). This holds a Yakima "Dry Dock" which is normally mounted on the rear of the truck/SUV. Add a single Yakima crossbar and tower set on cab and your ready to mount a couple of 'yaks. Yakima has custom attachments for this or you can use foam on the bars and straps to secure boats to bars. Have used "foam and strap" method for about 14 years now with no issues. PM through RV.NET with an email addy and I'll send some pix.

It is actually coustom fabricated.
The two side plates are 6"X4" 1/4" Steele angle 8" long, the reciver tube is a available at most trailer shops.
To figure the top angle I leveled the 5er the held the angle iron on the pin box and marked a level line across the angle iron. I cut the angle iron on that line and then clamped it all together and had a welder do the welding.
